Default Tabletop Quality (I hope) Mercs

Since starting the hobby about a year ago I have been embroiled in two fairly long terrain projects. While this has been a ton of fun I really have not had a ton of time to work on my army or learn/play the game to the depth I want.

So I am starting this thread with some pictures of my army to motivate me and to get feedback.

To start I am not a great painter. I am partially colorblind and have never considered myself much of an artist. In an effort to make up for these deficiencies I kept to a very small color scheme and brushed on ink (dipping) to give a lot of the shading. I was shooting for tabletop quality and I am fairly happy with the results.

These pictures were taken quickly when we were taking macro shots of our newest terrain table so I am sorry they are not great. Also I need to hit my minis with a matte finish still so please pardon the shine.

Ok lets start with my favorite models the warjacks:

The vanguard was the first model I painted and it is still one of my favorites.

My first attempt at freehand is actually on the elbow of my freebooter where I wrote "clamps"

All of my jacks are painted (1 of each non-Rhulic and two Renegades). So I have some more pictures to take.

    Some Warcaster shots:

I am not good at faces. Something I hope to work on.

Here are some of my favorite solos/units. I have a ton more pictures to take of the rest I have painted (pAlexia, pEiryss, Orin, Dirty Meg, McNaile, and Gorman).

Herne and Jonne have to be two of my favorite models. They are the only models I have painted so far that I thoroughly enjoyed painting with no frustration.

Not a great picture but I think he came out well.

    More solos/units:

I tried to add my detail to her face 3-4 times but it always ended badly.

These two had so much detail (Holt especially) I actually put them off until I had nothing left to paint because I was so intimidated.

Boomhowler and Co. were the first unit I painted.

He is standing on barrels which is something I did before buying a mini-case. Now I have to have this large spot on a pluck foam tray to fit him. This is also my first try at eyes, didn't come out great.

Whenever there is a left shoulder pad on a model it is painted that bright orange/yellow color. This helped me because I had a lot of trouble early on just knowing what parts of models to paint what color.

They look pretty good, probably better when every flaw isn't magnified to 4X their normal size too I would make one suggestion that might help a little. The ink wash you put on ended up splotchy in a few areas and that can be mitigated by adding some flow improver to the ink.

I considered taking "Tabletop" range pictures of them because they do look better on the table. Then I decided since we had the camera out for the table anyway, why not. I am actually kinda proud of these, sure I am not going to win any painting contests but it beats looking at metal or primer.

Thanks for the tip, it is something I will look into for sure. I convinced myself that my mercs are dirty that way I don't cringe at the splotches in the pictures.
