Hi everyone, I'd like to share a new project that I have started with you guys to get some feedback and actually more than anything to have some accountability as well - since I know that if I tell other people about it I'm more likely to put more energy into the project if I know people are interested.
Firstly, the project is called Army List Maker and is located at http://www.armylistmaker.com
It is a project I started that is essentially going to be an Online Army List Maker for Warmachine / Hordes.
As of right now the project is very much just in it's infancy stages and only has very limited functionality, but I have a lot of ideas for what I'd like to add into it that I haven't seen with any other software (both online & offline).
My first order of business for the project is to bring it up to the point where it has the most obvious and basic functionality that everyone expects in such a tool. Stuff like choosing an army, being able to add models to that army list, have the software calculate points values, field allowances and all that cool stuff.
Of course if that is all I had planned for the software, there really wouldn't be any point to it since there are other tools that already do something similar available online. However, that is not the case here as I have quite a few ideas that I'd like to add in, once I get the basics down.
I can't share those ideas yet until I build them out, but I think people will find them useful and fun. I just bring this up because I have shared the idea with a few people on other forums and I have gotten feedback from people basically saying "There's already a tool that does that. Don't bother building another one."
I am pretty sure I have seen pretty much every tool out there, but none of them have the ideas that I will eventually put into mine - it's just that as a starting point I want to build out the basics which of course the other tools have.
Anyway, once again I just wanted to share this with you guys. I don't have a lot to show for the project yet, but I will soon and I'd like to keep a running "diary" of my progress on here for anyone who's interested in checking out the tool as I build it out, leaving comments/feedback etc.
I also put up some screenshots of what I've done so far on my Blog:
