Default Learning to Paint - The Blackstone Kriel

So I decided to chronicle my journey here as well as on my blog and whatnot. I have just started to actually try my hand at painting. In fact, beyond an Orc Warboss I did about 3 years ago I have not painted anything! Here is my first completed unit: The Kriel Stone Scribes and their Bearer!

I will post more as I progress. I need to get better at this sort of thing man >.>

Surprisingly my trolls are ALOT Darker then they appear in those pictures! I guess the washes needed to cure or something overnight 0_0

Thanks for the compliment as well. The runes on the Stone are done in Liche Purple and I would love to figure out how to make em glow kinda!

The only way I can think of to make them slightly glow would be to paint the area you want to glow white and then wash the white (after it dries) with purple wash or thinned purple ink.

Glow effects are actually surprisingly easy.
    The Brushthralls have a tutorial.

The glow itself is a matter of layering dark to light, and making certain that its the lightest color on the model.
Using the Helldiver above as an example, notice the darned bright green is lighter than any other color on the model - further making it look like its glowing.

Might be an idea to try taking pics with natural light, rather than the flash - you could be overblowing the light on the models

    Chat with you tomorrow, dude

The first thing I thought was your flash was blowing out your colors. You might also want to do some detail on their faces, namely their teeth and their eyes. It gives them more definition to them, and its a skill thats never to early to start working with. Good job so far!

Yea I will be doing their teeth and eyes later. Should I rebase the teeth and eyes in Black and then paint the white or whatever?
