    Default My Cygnar Army Thread

Been playing Warmachines for a few weeks now, and just wanted to share my painting progress. I know I'm not as good as some of the amazing painters I've seen here, but I enjoy painting, and I'm relatively happy with where my skills are right now.

    So here goes:

Stryker with his little buddy Squire:

I have to say I like your infantry models. The Stormblade Infantry and Stryker and his Squire are great. I would be happy to see an opponent with this accross the table from me.

Some might complain about the name change to our Stormblade Infantry Captain solo being a nerf but Khadors Iron Fang solo got nerfed so bad he defected to a different faction.

Thanks. It's GW's Dwarf Bronze. Most of the time it's a single coat over Reapers Black brush-on primer. If it shows too much black through it, I'll give it a really light second coat. Then I give it a really healthy wash of Badab Black to give the metals a sort of greasy/oily look to them.

As you can probably see on most of the models, I tend to go a little overboard with the Badab Black. I'm going to try and reign that in with the next set of models I paint (the 10 Long Gunners).

Good painting, what really impresses me though are the bases. Great work.

I'd leave it the way it is. I like the Ironclad's hammer better, anyway.

In fact, I'm thinking of doing my second Ironclad with a Defender's hammer, just to mix it up (and help me tell them apart).

I've got a few models ready for basing, so when I have some time to get to them, I'll take some step by step pictures and post a little "How To" on how I do my bases.

    So wow...

Been a long time since I updated this. But I've got a big updated to post, so let's get started.

You'll noticed that none of these new additions have been based yet. I've been trying to focus more on getting them all painted first, then I'll get to the bases.

First, we have the Mercenary Support Staff.

    Rhupert:

Reinholdt (with his pimpin' purple hat):

    Next, we have Arian Strangewayes:

Followed by the Gobber Repair Squad (complete with green toe nails):

Next we have my squad of Rangers:

I've got a fully painted squad of Long Gunners, but for some reason, they aren't photographing well, so I will get a photo of them up next time around.

Here are a few Work In Progress models:

    Major Haley:

    Sentinel Light Warjack:

    Started but unfinished models:
    Major Haley
    Sentinel Light Warjack
    Arcane Tempest Gun Mages
Arcane Tempest Gun Mage Unit Attachment
    Gun Mage Captain Adept
    1 x Stormgunner
    General Adept Nemo
1 x Light Warjack Wreck Marker
1 x Heavy Warjack Wreck Marker

Well, my move was a success. I finally got a work station set up, so now I can get back to painting. I want to try and have all of the models I own painted by the end of the year, thanks to this thread.

So I haven't updated this thread in over a month now...

So here's a quick preview of what's on the painting table now:

This is the base for my Storm Strider.

The ground is built up using Mighty Putty (yes, the Billy Mayes stuff)

Then I took a bonesaw, and cut a Sentry Stone into 3 pieces, so that it looks like it was kicked apart, or broken by the Strider.

Then I set up the 3 Manikins (which are a pain in the butt to glue together by the way.). One of them is fleeing the Strider, 2 are dead. One of the arms on one of the dead ones is detached (figured it's a good solution for one who's arm wouldn't glue on properly). The one with the detached arm is going to be stepped on by the Strider once it's finished.

Looks like a neat base. Have you though about smoothing out the colours and highlighting them a bit more, or are you just going for a painted table top army?

It's something I'm working on getting better at. Right now I'd consider most/all of my models table top quality. Trying to work on moving up to the next level where my pieces are more refined. I've been painting about as long as I've been playing Warmachine (August of this year). I'm also working on not smothering all of my models in Badad Black, as you can clearly see from most of my models, especially the first few.

I've got the base pretty much all painted now, so once I'm done painting the Strider, I'll assemble it, and mount it on the base. So far it's turning out great.

So last update was about a month and a half ago. So here's something new, my new favorite Warjack.

    Ol' Rowdy!!!

Here's the main reason for the long gap between updates. I've been working on this monster:

    And some close-ups:

The model isn't complete yet, but it's close. I need to build up a bit more ground under the feet with green stuff more (2 of the 3 feet on the ground are not stable right now). I then need to add grass/flock to the base.

Delightful work!! I really like all of your army. Keep painting and trying new techniques and your tabletop models won't be "tabletop quality"

Towards the end of April my LGS is running a 50 point Tier event. Everyone brings one list (maybe it's a 2 list, but I'm just bringing 1). Your list MUST be a valid theme list (at least Tier 1).

For my list, I am bringing a Captain Kraye Tier 4 list, and as a personal goal, I want to try and have the entire army painted (they won't be based, but will be painted and arcs marked).

Here's my list and status on each:

Captain Jeremiah Kraye (needs washes and highlights)
    -Hunter (finished)
    -Hunter (finished)
-Ironclad (open fist magnetized arm needs painted)
    -Ironclad (finished)
    -Centurion (finished)
    -Minuteman (not available yet)*
    -Minuteman (not available yet)*

    Rangers (finished)
    Rangers (base coating started)
    Max Field Mechaniks (finished)

*The Minuteman warjack is supposed to be released early to mid April. Assuming them come in to the shop by the 11th (the release date stated at The War Store), I will only have 10 days to assemble and paint 2 Minutemen. They will be the main hurdle for the everything painted aspect. If they don't come out in time, or I cannot get them painted, I will probably rework the list to include some other jack(s) that I already have painted.

Kraye 50 point Tier 4 update:
Everything but the 2 Minutemen are complete.

Which brings me to today's post...

This is my first attempt at modding a miniature. Both of my two Minutemen are going to be airborne when I'm finished. I've chopped apart their legs and re-assembled them to put them in this position:

I then took some Armorcast RPG blasts to create the jetpack smoke that will connect the warjack to the metal 40mm base.

more on this as it develops...

    Obligatory post for PG_Agamemnon.

Here's the boys in blue, in all their painted glory. I still have more models to paint, but I only wanted to post the fully painted ones.

Also, yes, I know most of them aren't based. I need to get to work on that sometime, but I'll be able to just do a huge assembly line job on that.

And before anyone says anything, YES, one of the stormsmiths on my Storm Srider isn't there. It had a small accident, and I need to pin him to the walkway. He was originally just glued there.

Thanks. And so far I've still got a bit to go.

Off the top of my head:
    2 x modified Minutemen
    1 x Firefly
1 x Minimum Unit of Nyss Hunters (might decide to upgrade to max unit before I paint them)
    1 x Kara Sloan
    1 x pHaley
    1 x Siege
1 x Alexia (epic one on a horse)
6 x Zombies (to use in place of Alexia's Thralls)
    1 x Stannis Brocker
    1 x pCaine
    1 x Black 13th Unit (all 3 models)
    1 x Runewood
    1 x Laddermore (both models)
    1 x Sylys
    1 x Pendrake

So I've got close to 30 models left to finish up.

Great stuff, it all looks very well painted and all of the modifications that I have seen are very impressive and motivating to get me to do more when the semester is over. I really like all the cool effects you have on the armor of all your heavies and otherwise. I also really like the bright striking colors and color scheme. I am sure a lot of people are impressed by it when they see it out on the table. Keep up the good and impressive work. I definitely appreciate all that you have shared with the community here.
