Default NQ 28: Templar, Bastion & Exemplar Errant

This thing on? OK, first time posting in the new forum. We'll see how it goes... So this was a first, three pieces, three different materials. Metal, plastic and resin. The Templar wasnt into production just yet, so I got to play around with a resin master this go around. Always scares me a bit, cause they can break a touch more easily, and you have no backups if the situation comes up. Trust me, been there, done that.

Overall we were going for a scheme similar to the one I did for the Order of the Wall Paladin trio in Superiority. Those however were painted prior to P3s, so that build needed a rethinking. Took a few mixing test, but am fairly happy with the results.

As alway, comments and questions are welcomed.

Wow! I really like that scheme. Very different, but still distinctly Protectorate.
    Kudos!

Very nice. The colors are just blended beautifully. The metals look really nice too. So how did you like working with the new plastic warjacks?

These models floored me when I saw them in NQ...at first I thought they were painted art and not photographed miniatures. Beautiful work on the NMM, and the muted colors are fantastic. I think you have finally outdone yourself!

I actually didn't like this scheme as much as your usual ones. The whole thing comes off as really bland and unbalanced to me-- the red highlights into that gross light pink (might've worked better as a stronger true red), and the blue feels too saturated next to the (very nice) faded grey plating.

Your alt schemes always strike me as something that could've just as easily been used as the main studio scheme (good fit with the models, good colour balance, etc), but this one just seems a bit off. The technique, as always, is flawless... I just didn't like the colour choices.

I agree with spud. It seems bland -- there's not enough contrast between the white and gold on the Bastions -- or maybe just not enough contrast in the white on its own.

Maybe its just my own personal taste, but it seems very dull. No pop?

I mean, my criticism is more harsh because you're CLEARLY a very talented artist - there's no doubt about that.

hee hee, almost exactly another scheme concept I had been thinking about with the light gray/navy. Nice to see it before trying!

I have to agree with spud; I'm not a fan of the red/pink bits. The only other negative is that I would have liked to see the metallics darker, especially on the head so that the glow from the eyes would stand out more. Minor differences in taste, that's all. Otherwise, some beautiful work there.

Aye, darker metals probably would've helped a lot... the light gold doesn't contrast well against the light grey and light pink.

the main thing I actually like about the first piece is the metal on the shield. The use of the lighter color on the spikes to give the lighting effect is awesome. Is that done in NMM? I would like to try that with true metallic and see how it works out.

First off the technique is splendid the coloring on the white is superb. Sadly I must lend my voice to the naysayers in regards to the schema itself. While the Templar looks ok in it... I think the exemplar are terrible in it. Maybe some contextual photos of them on a table top to see how they look than. Otherwise. not a fan.

Secondly, I wuv de wittle bases!

Stunning! I can't get over the sheer skill it must of taken to get such a smooth creme color, let alone the other colors and metallics!

Painting, of course is phenominal. However, that scheme is just wrong on a lot of levels. It comes off like those toys you can by at the local pharmacy that are trying to look like a name brand toy. All they do is make it out of a cheaper plastic and a really odd color scheme so they cant be accused totally of copying the brand name.

I think the only thing off really is that red/violet chosen for the Menofixes and accents. If it was more a darker red I feel it would have a better fit. Or a dark grey/charcoal coloring.

Also, the Bastions back looks really bare. It doesnt have the feeling like it is missing something, it looks like it missing something, very obvious. I would slap some of that gold on those back plates.

As well on the back of the Bastions, they have the same "gem" studs at the bottom of thier armor that the Templar has above his head. Those need to be painted.

I am just being honest, no malicis intent should be taken from it. This is the first time I have not been blown away by your work.

Weird; excellent techniques. I appreciate the harmonies the colors create, but I don't think these would fit in unless the gaming table or display case was suitably grimdark.
