Default Good configurations for Grind Jacks

    Hi there,

So first post and after a long, long time with GW I've decided to move on to pastures new. I'm using Grind as my entry game into the world of PP and hopefully soon will pick up the Warmachine Battle Box as it seems to be very good value.

I'm looking to paint up my Grind teams and don't want to mess around with pins or magnets. I want to pose the miniatures, prime paint and then leave them and as the arms are very stiff once in the socket I don't want to mess around removing them.

I wonder what would be a good configuration for the Jacks, something I wont regret and something that would ideally make the 'Cygnar' team different to the 'Khador' one (As I understand it they are not Cygnar and Khador and Grind exists in some kind of branch universe like Blood Bowl...).

Thanks, don't be too mean to me, I'm a complete newbie to the world of PP, Warmachine and Hordes...

I saw a thread on another site--I think it was boardgamegeek.com, but I can't find the post--that featured painted, magnetized steamjacks. That's the route I suggest you take. The ability to change arms and try different tactics is one of the game's strong points, and you'll lose out on that facet if you proceed as planned.

If you are determined to stick with this idea, however, here's my configuration for teaching someone else the game:

    Red Runner 1: Fist, Grappler
    Red Runner 2: Scrambler, Magno-Grip
Red Runner 3 (goaltender): Interceptor, Gyro Shot
Red Crusher 1: Heavy Fist, Heavy Gyro Shot
Red Crusher 2: Wreck-O-Matic, Heavy Fist

    Blue Runner 1: Fist, Fist
    Blue Runner 2: Fist, Magno-Grip
Blue Runner 3 (goaltender): Interceptor, Gyro Shot
Blue Crusher 1: Pulverizer, Heavy Fist
Blue Crusher 2: Heavy Fist, Heavy Grappler

That puts at least one of ever arm in play. It also gives the teams identical goaltenders.

    Good luck!

Thanks so much. I am unfortunately determined to stick with it for reasons mentioned in the board game geek thread (I googled it, thanks for that). The Jacks are made of a tacky, horrible plastic which paint will not adhere to well and the arms are quite 'stiff' in how they fit into the sockets. SO rough handling arms in and out will quickly take paint off the minis.

Maybe I could file down the plugs so they fit less tight and use magnets?

In honesty I'm disappointed with the quality of the Jacks inside the set but ce la vie, I'll give them a try. I hope that other PP plastics are not made of this material.

These 'jacks are some kind of resin; they're not the same as those used for Warmachine and Hordes, although they may be the same as those used in Monsterpocalypse. Can you post the link to the BGG thread you found? I'd like to see whether it's the same one I remember, and I might be able to suggest something else after that.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/4576...d-gluing-grind that's the link. If I've done it properly.

I know that the WM stuff is made out of different stuff so I'm not worried about that. In a month or so I'm going to buy the WM starter set and every faction book cause I know nothing about the world. But something feels very fresh and unknown about it. I'm not banging on GW or Warhammer but after 20 years of them I'm really wiped out. There's nothing else I can learn or do or make. So it's time for a new world and I'm really excited about it.

Yes, that's the link. The pictures I had in mind are on page 2 of that thread. They look fantastic.

Baha, well I've done a turnaround and decided not to paint the set at all. The mini's just aren't good enough though that's not to say that the rest of the PP line isn't great. Next month I'm gonna order a fat pile of WM stuff to get started into the game proper and till then I'll learn Grind and have some fun rather than getting hung up on it.

I'll be dropping around 250 pounds to put two small factions together as well as the hardback rules so expect me to be asking more dumb assed questions but within a different section a few weeks from now. If only it wasn't Menoth in the starter set... Really looking forward to getting into this world though.

Thankyou for all your help. ONE more question... And I will sound really dumb cause I'm sure it's staring me in the face... What's the Grinders AV? I can't find it anywhere in the book...

    Edit- I got it, it's 0...

Yep, it's 0, although it can be modified if it's held by an opposing steamjack. The video tutorial on the main PP website mentions that the Grinder has Armor 2 in the catch, but this rule didn't make it to the final rulebook.
