    Default IronComrade's Alt Scheme Khador

I have already put up some of my khador on here but lately I've been using a better camera and painting up my armies furiously. I have some finished stuff some WIP stuff.

Manhunter, I painted this in about an hour trying to finish it for a mini night I was trying to get to. I am terrible at eyes, mainly because I think I need better brushes.

Wardog, I really like the way this model turned out. Gotta love the Wardog

Now for some WIP stuff, some MoW Demo Corp

What do you think of posing of his left arm? I'm not wild about it but I wanted to showcase the shoulder pad a little.

    Finally my Widowmakers!

Any C & C would be greatly appreciated!

Heya, I think your alt scheme is pretty good. It isn't too far off from studio Khador, but looks very different from that.

However, black main color obviously has its downsides. Though it looks really nice, too much of it looks like "unfinished". This is the case with the man-o-war I think. I'd do something with the metal stuff below chest armor.

Anyway. Looking good, and will look especially intimidating with a whole army painted that way!

I agree the black needs a little something to make it feel finished. Otherwise, I think its a nice scheme. I'm a sucker for muted armies.

I have a question for you though. What did/do you use for snow? It looks great. I w

@Pseudog: I'm trying to think of what more that I could do to get away from the unfinished look. I payed a lot of attention to the studio scheme as far as color distribution goes. If you look at the studio pictures, they use only 4 colors as well. I definitely could do a half black / half grey edge highlight on some of the more obvious sections.

@Billingsly: the base is a lose dirt / sand mixture from my back yard glued to the base with Elmer's. Once it's dry then I do a couple globs of Elmer's where I want the snow and then toss a couple of pinches of baking soda.

The goal of the paint scheme is to be as intimidating as possible so I'm glad for that!

    Updates!

Beast 09 has got a lot more detail and a fancy ribbon for our special snowflake. Notice that it's also a little throw back to my 40k days (the dark ages)

pSorscha has gotten some more highlights and is now what I would call a "finished" state.

A little group shot of the two buddies!

Having trouble making my front arc markers square and plumb, anyone have any tips for easily painting square front arc markers?

Next up is final touch ups for Widowmakers, more demo corp, pIrusk and Iron Fang Pikemen + UA.

For highlighting black, what I like to do is: prime black, then lay down a solid Thamar Black undercoat. From there, I mix Coal Black and Menoth White Base and highlight up--dry brushing if it's a textured/folded surface (like my Menite man skirts) or fine lining otherwise, then mixing that with Menoth White Highlight for final highlights, or sometimes I will just mix Coal Black with the MWH straight for a brighter highlight. Works for me, but you may want to futz with other colors as well to see what you can get.

Doh, I'm only used to GW paints, can you translate or direct me a place where I can translate the colors?

So I've decided to mix and match the heads so I could make the destroyer from my battlebox into a black Ivan. I've been trying to add more shading onto the black that I do. I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out. Granted that this is just tabletop standard and not master class or anything. Anywho on with updates.

    Black Ivan (love this model)

Also a quick shot of my Iron Fang Pikeman color scheme.

You should go the extra mile with your IFP and put the dragon symbol on the shield. I like you stuff though, it looks like you've tried lots of techniques over the course of painting all these guys, it's like I can see a progression in your work and you are going in a good direction.

I appreciate your comment. It is very true I am definately learning. I don't think that ill end up doing the shields even though there are some great tutorials online but I have no experience with green stuff and its so much work!

I know I haven't been posting in this thread but that doesn't mean that I haven't been painting. I didn't like my Beast 09 and saw a 40k piece that inspired me. I really like OSL so I've been trying to get better (and get better at my blending, which still needs work.)

I love your color scheme. However, I think the skin is too yellow.to my taste. looks like they suffer from hepetitis (or is it the quality/lightning of your photos?)

    Keep on the good painting!

I think it's probably the lighting of the photos. I've struggled with getting the proper lighting. Although the skin is lighter no doubt, I don't think they look quite yellowish in person.

nice color scheme but at the same time there is too much black. for instance on Irusk the ruffles on his cape thing could have been a grey, white, gold, something other than black. since Black is dominate having more stand out details makes the model look alot better. otherwise your gonna get some Matrix jokes xD

The ruffles on his cape are actually grey with a black wash, it's just that in the photo that doesn't come up unfortunately. But I do get what your saying and will thinking about that when applying the scheme in the future.

Kit Bash Drago. Have his chain skull necklace on order from PP so I'm definitely going to put that on him. Also was thinking of getting some chains for his arms as well but I'm not sure if I have to do that before or after I paint.

Drago definitely looks like something outta the twisted metal video game. . .

    . . .and yes, that's a good thing
Some people need a weekly dose of vitamin D6 to "stay sane." Me, I just need a taste of paint and I'm good.

Why is it that whenever I think of Twisted Metal... I think of the Rolling Stones' Paint It Black?

In other news, that Drago conversion is wicked cool. Good job! I love the scheme so far, and I want to see more!

The paintjob on your Drago is incredible! Did you do NMM? Would you mind sharing a bit on how you did the black and gold? Even the paint on the chains looks fantastic. Really nice work.

Thanks, I love my Drago. Here's my process (no its not NMM).

Black: Chaos black base, I then mix 1 part Black with 2-3 Parts Codex Grey, I then just start broadly highlighting the edges and keep stepping up the highlights for, blending purposes with more grey being added to that mixture until I'm doing the edge highlighting with the straight codex grey. I then wash it all in badab black to unify. The middle parts of the plates were dry brushed with bolt gun metal as I had already roughed the surface prior to painting.

Gold: Shining Gold base, washed in badab and then refilled in/highlighted with Shining gold.
