    Default GabbaDJ's Blindwater Congregation paintblog...

    So my LGS started a long term Journeyman League and I've decided to go with the Gators <3 It's spread out over 6 months instead of 6 weeks and capped at 50 points.

    Also most of the paintjobs are strictly basecoats + blackwash with very minimal highlights. So for all those new painters who want something decent looking without having to spend a ton of time, this might be the way to go.

    JOURNEYMAN LEAGUE - Month 1 (11 points)

    WARPACK

    BLOODY BARNABAS

    Skin=VGC Gobling Green
    Underside=VGC Bronze Flesh
    Tunic=VGC Warlord Purple

    BLACKHIDE WRASTLER

    Skin=VGC Camouflage Green
    Underside=VGC Bronze Flesh
    Spine=VGC Cayman Green

    IRONBACK SPITTER

    Skin=VGC Desert Yellow
    Shell=VGC Beasty Brown

    Really nice work! Very clean and reminiscent of my approach to Pigs - though with brown wash (Devlan Mud) instead of black.

    My only critique would be this - it would have been nice to find SOME way to get that purple color on the Spitter somewhere - his tongue even would have worked. Something to tie him more clearly to the rest of the army.

    Are those Army Painter grass tuffs? I've been thinking about using those and your work here makes me want to even more.

    Thanks!

    The Devlan Mud wash is to subtle for me haha ;p

    Well this is just the core...there will be a lot more models that won't have purple as well. A purple tongue would remind me he's been sucking on grape candy lol.

    Yes these are the Army Painter Swamp Tufts...my first time using them and I love them!

    perfect style. I have been contemplating how to do a simple, quick, but acceptable quality Gator force. I am stealing your plan and altering some colors.

    Thanks. That's exactly why I post my stuff actually. To show you can have decent tabletop quality in a short amount of painting time. I know new people as well as those who are stuck in their ways may sometimes be discouraged by some of the awesome talents that post here. Don't! There are many tricks out there to pull off different styles. You can also check my blog for the tutorial on how to do the "lazy blackwash" technique

    Just be sure to post photos of your army when you put it together!

    Good luck!

    i love the metal work on the totem hunter, especially the spear head. How did you do it?

    Also, you have achieved a very cool effect with the green feralgeist wash.

    Thanks! It's super simple to do.

    The Feralgeist was painted a almost neon green and I just put GW badab blackwash all over and done!

    Everything on the Totem Hunter except his eyes/flesh are just base coats and a GW badab blackwash over it. That's it, no highlights or anything.

    Check my blog for the tutorial

    Well done. I know you said they're just base coats with a wash, but they look splendid. I'm sure they look great on the table.

    This thread was exactly what I needed to see. I'm not a painter myself and have practiced the basecoat/wash style to great effect on some Skorne.

    Can I ask what paints/washes (I'm assuming black wash, but was it PP, GW, Reaper?) you used for the Spitter, and Gatorman Posse?

    Questions aside, you've got some great looking models and I hope mine turn out the similar.
