This makes me realize that fluff is actually a very important part of the game, because without it, we'd all be running the same armies, and that wouldn't be very fun. I'm glad Rhoven isn't B13 or Great Bears.

To further your point, we basically do have magic users, but they all have a religious context (which I think is what you're trying to say). But for us to get a unit of magic users, they would have to fit in the fluff, and not in a forced way. They certainly wouldn't be wizards of any sort. I can't think of any religious group off the top of my head that would fit here. We already have a choir, priests, monks, and men of various religious rank. Maybe a unit of specialized monks that deal fire damage with their fists? Or something.
The closest thing I can think of offhand would be Reclaimers. They still have magic-like soul-powers now, but back in Mk1 they actually had a small list of other powers they could use with their souls too, and were somewhat like a kind of combat wizard.

Since Reclaimers have a theme of cremating the dead, that lends itself to a fire theme, and a holy sacrament of incinerating things, maybe the flamebringers would be a unit of more combat-oriented reclaimers?

I still think it is more likely that they will be our version of Light Cav. Maybe the only Light Cav in the next book that doesn't have a gun. This goes double if Cygnar gets their Light Cav (Gunmage cav?) for Kraye's theme list.

I'd like to see a flameguard infantry support unit that can cause and give additional benefits to the Fire continuous effect. We'll have to see, though. They're mentioned specifically in the Thyra theme list, so they'd have to thematically fit with the "ninja assassination force" theme she has going on.

Being the Black Widows theme force, my speculation is that they'll be female, whatever they are. Mayhap not, as choir are allowed. I'm hoping for speedy flame throwers or Olympic torch carrying berzerkers. Bring the flame.

Is there some info that confirms the expansion of light cav units? I like the idea, but where is it coming from?

It's likely just a 2 man unit of priests with a spell casting fire ability. A similar size unit to the new Khador one. It would be good if they had Caustic Presence command range to help pFeora's feat too.

I think we need a spell casting or rather Divine casting unit, it would be a nice fit.

Light cav is just speculation. I speculate it's going to be Idrian.

I keep hoping for an expansion to the Flameguard. Maybe something akin to the Long Gunners or Trenchers. I love the look of the Steelhead models and would love something like that in faction.

This would be cool, but if they're in Thyra's theme force we can be reasonably certain they're not members of the Reclaimer order. They'd have to fall somewhere under Feora's hierarchy.

What if we combined the two reigning ideas. Light cavalry spellcasting flame-priests anyone?

I'd prefer not. You pay a premium for that kind of mobility and I don't really see the need considering our infantry tends towards bricking anyways. I suppose if they were debuff/attacking-based fire priests, perhaps, but I'd much rather see Idrian light cav.

    I was kidding...haha

Yeah, if we're getting light cav it should definitely be Idrian. That would make good sense for the story. I really do hope Flamebringers are some kind of spellcasting toolbox unit, though. Under the Flameguard umbrella, we've already got tarpit infantry, mobile damage dealers, and a unit of spray attacks. Another straight up damage unit with fire would be white noise.

That said, magic-based cavalry would be pretty unique. It would depend on how it's handled.

My wild speculation, as cliche as this sounds, is this: they will be a character unit of Daughters of the Flame. However, they'll have graduated to be assassins par excellence and will both bring the flame and will have Blessed weapons along with acrobatics and individual skills for each character:
First character makes all attacks magical, second character prevents from expiring in her CMD area and the third is the leader of the unit and also improves nearby Daughter of the Flame units, granting all daughters of the flame units (including the Flamebringers) Powerful Charge.

What I hope most, but I would not be suprised, if it not is to be so, is that the Flamebringers, NOT is a Flameguard unit, because the Flameguard has get enough, to last for a while. A protectorate version of druids/greylords, would be fine, and it could perhaps be a order of monks/priests, (not necessary the Order of the Fist), with Deender's Ward, Immolation and Menoth's Sight.

What if they are a Medium base 6/10 TFG unit? Single wound, but still really neat.

This may be very far off base, but I just happen to love medium base infantry.

I would just like them to be immune to fire. I'd love to have something for my Cleansers to use as a screening unit that they can spray through without killing viciously. (Other than running some sort of Exemplar models with Kreoss2 so that they at least don't get lit on fire.)

I could see a squad of heavy flamer "Heavy Cleansers" being neat as hell, and give them Combustion as well when they vent napalm or whatever.

You do realize, however, that if we get a better shooting heavy infantry choice than the Man o War Bombardiers, the rage of Khador players who feel our heavy infantry is better than theirs will grow to dangerous levels.

Heavy Cleansers. Me likey. And even though there would be a lot of rage from the Khador players, I don't think it would be a problem. With the UA to their mechaniks they can now heal their Heavy Infantry, while I can't heal my Bastions. Well I suppose the Heirophant would be able to heal them. But I wouldn't won't him anywhere near my Bastions or Cinnies. So I would still give the +1 to Khador Heavy Infantry since I would have the ability to stick around on the table longer.

But now back to Medium based Cleasners. Would they have shorter sprays and better melee? Would they be something like the League Cinerators just without Weapon Master and Fearless? Medium base, multi-wound, shieldwall, 6 inch spray, and TFG pow w/o reach? Would that be over powered?

That's a nice idea. I still think they will be female (Black Widows), but what about females in Cin/Bastion type armor? With Gunfighter and a short flame spray in addition to a sword or halberd?

I am hoping for light cavalry. I'd love for them to have sprays...if they make them rat 5; however...grumble...heck I'd even like to see the little 2" fire aura around a light Cavalry unit with crossbows. They could chase down the @#^%$& Reindeer and burninate the enemy lines.

They're not in the Colossals book. However, PP has stated that they will be releasing cavalry to cover the "gaps" in WM cavalry (for example, Protectorate has no Light Cav, as does Cygnar, and Cryx has no Heavy Cav).

It's a good bet that Flamebringers will probably be that unit. We still have no information on what they might be, but based on the Colossals fluff, mounted Idrians seems the most probable.

Warjack technology is considered sacrilegious by the menoth faithful.
to justify their use, each jack is extensively blessed and engraved with holy scripture:
"Imagine how that process went with the judicator, the thing has flamethrower nipples..."
And may the heretics draw deeply upon the cleansing fire sprung forth from Menoth's holy teets!

I'm willing to bet they are light cav, as that would fit with Thyra very well. If they are Idrians however, IMHO Protectorate will still lack a light cav option.

I highly doubt they will be Idrians though. For one, they wouldn't make much sense in the "Black Widows" theme force. They also would be able to be taken in merc forces.

And now that I think about it, they could be female Idrians so would fit in Black Widows just fine. Also, I haven't heard of any merc light cav, so they could use these to fill in both gaps... dangit. Now I've convinced myself to worry.

Then again, if they're called "Flame Bringers" that really doesn't scream "Idrian" at all. More like some sort of Flameguard on horses.

    I'm thinking Daughters on Horseback.

Idrians on horseback would end up costing 17 points for a full unit and still only have RAT 5 RNG 10 POW 11 guns.

    [POTENTIAL MINOR SPOILER ALERT]

Unconfirmed, but I recall hearing something about there being mounted Idrians serving as Kreoss's scouts in Colossals? And you figure they converted the Idrians, and FlameBRINGER sounds relatively missionary... food for thought.

If it makes you feel better, Mercs would not be able to take Idrian "Flamebringers," since they only work for Protectorate. Magnus's theme lists are the only place mercs can take Idrians, and even then they can only specifically take Idrian Skirmishers.

Given that Gunmage Cav is confirmed, I would not be surprised if that gets double-dipped into Highborn. Either that or Mercs will simply get their own. Given the excessive love PP has thrown into Mercs lately, I'd think they'd probably get something unique.

Likely a steel head Light cav that will only be better then In faction Light Cav if you have access to all the steel head buffs.

Wow, you're right. There's no contract that allows "will work for Protectorate" models. I guess that makes Idrians the only Ally unit that can't actually be used outside of a theme force. Weird.

I hope so. Mounted Idrians (come on, camels!) would be great light cavalry for Protectorate. We need something vaguely skirmishy, and the thought of mounted flamethrower troops just seems stupid to me. Hence, Idrians are the winners. Plus I'd like to see the Bedouin Idrian aspect played up.
