So rumor is that new steamroller is optioning reinforcements. These are addition to your 'normal' list. You get free 3 focus if you take jacks. So... What to take? (10 points in 50 point game)
Hydra+Arcanist maybe? Bunc of assassins?

From what I have seen reinforcements will only be during certain scenarios. I will probably look at something with good speed and or range. For my Legion army at 50pts almost guaranteed to be Raptors. For Ret, might look hard at 2 units of Archers. Have to test it a bit more once Journeyman is over.
I remember a discussion about this in the Menoth forums recently, and I brought up a couple of ideas there for discussion. I think the general feeling there was that Retribution's infantry is strong enough you'll probably want to bring in an infantry unit for reinforcements -- a surprise unit of MHSF+UA, or Sentinels+Soulless could be a nasty surprise coming in from a flank.

Yeah, if I recall the reinforcements obey FA and all that, so the arcanist will be one less arcanist in your opening force. Opening arcanists don't tend to do much for a bit other than optionally let a jack run, but in some cases it might be worth doing the Hydra alone, if you really want to do Hydra.
So far I've mostly been thinking infantry myself, plus a few other things.
The MHSF+UA would mean that you could not take a UA in your main force.
I am leaning towards 2 Ghost Snipers and a Scyir marshalled Griffon.
I ran a min until Nyss Hunters as renforcements, last night in a troll list they worked well. So I can see them or MHSF+UA in that roll.

Hmm, Nyss could be very good in that role, as they do not benefit from faction spells or mess with FA...
I really like the reinforcements thing and I hope they keep it. It allows us to use a larger variety of models (which is always good) without making it a 60pt or 70pt tournament. The way the SR2012 scenario selection is structured it should come up once or twice in most SR's, so it won't be something that's just random and annoying either. It also opens up a wealth of tactical options on what models to take and how to use them most effectively, and IMO, anything that keeps the game varied is good for the community as a whole. I was a long time Warhammer GT player (till I quit to play Warmahordes) and the past few years have just been the same thing over and over, even 8th barely shook things up. Reinforcements will go a long way toward keeping people on their toes every time.
Some things that come to mind:
1. Any of our light jacks. They start with 3 free focus, so something like a Chimera/Griffon combo or two Gorgons could do wonders for those models that don't see much use normally.
2. Destors and Destor Thanes seem particularly useful in this role, both for quick charges or multi-fire.
3. At only 10pts (at 50pt games) it will be impossible to squeeze most of our full mainstay units in, but we can still make good use of our little used units. Nyss Hunters, Halberdiers or Riflemen all could see more use. Riflemen in particular could make a great support unit depending on your main build, remember you don't have to bring them in 20" up, it could be 10" and shoot from a safe distance.
4. Same could be said of our heavies, even the Vyre ones that aren't out yet. Hydra+Aracanist is a great idea, Manticore (covering fire on the flank or 3 shots!) and a MHA, Sphinx +Narn, Daemon wading right into the mix, but perhaps one of the most effective choices, a Banshee or a AFG! Banshee gest 3 focus so it can come right in a start charging, or hang bak a little a shoot and knock something down. AFG would mainly deploy further back and shoot, but its a heck of a model to drop on a flank and start laying waste to things with that big gun. Props to proper timing with Ossyans feat for turn 2 barrage.
5. And of course any of mainstay units, while maybe not full strength (or at least not full+UA) can still function in this role. Min Sents or Min Invics + UA, two Battlemage units (again, props to a Rahn feat timed with their arrival), Phoenix, Discordia, or a Horde of Solos... Snipers, MHA's, and so on.
I think this format heavily favors Ret since our basic units are so effective. It doesn't matter that they may start out of control range or spell range since we don't have much that can buff them anyway. The basic units are so effective on their own we don't really suffer from being out of position, and *nobody* wants a unit or Sentinels appearing on their flank.
Good call. I've been using my Destors to good effect.Don't forget to take into consideration all the reinforcement spawn points. I think they were usually opposite corners that shared one edge with your deployment. That will factor in to what is good, for what, and why.![]()

Note that Battle Engines cannot be reinforcements.
Solo's like the Troll whelps can be, the way the PG ruled was if you keep them off the board; you can't pop them out until the rest of the reinforcements hit the board.
I know its not elf centric, but it is an interesting rules discussion in reguard to reinforcements.

Shame about the BE, but it does make it look more useful if you know a SR wil be using reinforcements. Take it in your main list and save the Sents or whatever for the flanking unit.
My current Kaelyssa list doesn't use MHSF+UA, so I could see myself using the MHSF+UA for reinforcements in that situation. Even vanilla MHSF could be useful as an anti-jack force, though, with an MHA to round out the points...
I've been experimenting with using the AFG vs. 2 units of Stormfalls in my Ravyn list, so Reinforcements would present me with a way to have both as the Stormfalls could appear as Reinforcements.
Alternatively... putting the MHSF+UA for reinforcements could present a really nasty surprise in the late game... XD

Reinforcements will only come into play in 1 or 2 games a tournament. I would be very adverse to putting a critical unit like Sentinels in them.
Why not something like the HG riflemen then? A decent enough unit with a nice threat range - and certainly not a critical unit like the dawnguard
I was thinking either really fast things or really long ranged things. riflemen, Destors thanes, invictors
Really like the idea of somethign with the hitting power of the vics popping up.
Sig Changed at Ed's request, he's still my fav though.
I actually really like the Riflemen, and only don't include them because its hard taking all the infantry I actually want at 50pts, but I could really see taking them if I had more to play with...
So how does it work - do I bring my 2 (or 3) 50pts lists and 10pts of "spare" that I have to use regardless of which army I'm playing when we get to a scenario that uses Reinforcements, or do I have an extra 10pts built into each list that only gets played in some scenarios?
Zerkova: Fools! How hard can it be to kill one measily elf? Where the hell is he anyway?
Narn: I is in your base, killing all your doodz!
Zerkova: Harsh!
You will not be able to get a max+UA in, which is unfortunate.
You have 2 50 point lists and a ten point list that has the same restrictions as both the other lists. It is pretty wonky right now, and I hope it will get streamlined by the end of the beta.
DeDestors are 7/11, so one has to take min unit, which isn't that effective.
Now 2xthane would be a whole lot better idea imho. Pours up to 8 shots with better RAT, POW and threat. What's not to like?
The one thing they will never see coming is Nyal. I've been looking a good excuse to field this bugger. Immune to blast at first turn and then able to run up to 14"+ whatever the edge deployment is. (Unless ofc you are running a weird list, which doesn't have 2xassassin allready.)
Its simpler than that. You have 2 50 point lists and a ten point list that has the same restrictions as both the other lists. It is pretty wonky right now, and I hope it will get streamlined by the end of the beta.
You make your list. Reinforcements are part of making your list. You may take an optional list (B). That list may take its own reinforcements.
