It does, doesn't it?
But I bet cardboard and thin resin wouldn't stand a chance against a truck...

Wow. There was a great deal of thought put into that table. It's very well done.
Great Job man! I love the in game pictures! I need to get better at dry brushing to bring my terrain up a notch.
Hey Pake, I'm wondering if you have any tips for planning out those large, random flagstones that you used on your uppermost tier. I'm thinking of stealing this as the predominant look for my table, I'm not sure the best way to go about it. If you could share a bit about your thought process or inspiration you used when designing that area, I'd appreciate it!

Sorry, there was no planning involved. I just grabbed a cardboard and started cutting, piece by piece.
I just tried to cut them in random shapes; some bigger, some smaller, etc. But if you want my two cents; I say don't do it.
Despite the fact that I cast five pounds of resin, the card board cutting was definitely the most annoying stage. Yes, it looks good, it is nice to game on, it was cheap to make but it is quite difficult to fill an area that big with a pattern like that, let a lone a whole gaming table.
But if you're up to it, go of it!

Pake - after completion, how much does the portable table weight and how easy is it to move? Been thinking about doing something similar but I am not good with this type of stuff and was curious if it would be feasible to load into a car each week and take to a different location for play.

The full-of-resin table is quite heavy, thanks to all the resin. It's around 50 pounds. The other portable table I made is much lighter, about 20 pounds.
It's easy to move, I'll post a pic in the other thread of the handles I made for it.
Cream jeans on all my jeans now ... it was obvious that someone who can build a table like that might be able to paint an army nicely as well but seeing two awesome armies playing against each other on THAT table makes me wanna have babies with THAT table now.
I cannot wait 'til this girl is another man's problem.
Necro of the thread but a question for you Pake -- is that a 4x4 table or did you give up the 1/2" on the edges? I'm asking because I see you attached the 1x4 directly to your plywood - and since ply comes in 4x8 it means you are probably an inch or so short of 4x4 on each side.
Just curious - I'm planning a similar kind of table and am grappling with that right now.
Nope, sorry
The table is 4' by 4' without the edges. I managed to find a plywood that was bigger than standard size so the 17mm edge boards don't eat up space from the playing ground. So it's 4' by 4' without the edges.
Jealousy rears its ugly head. That table looks great.

This is going to be two ridiculously stupid questions, but I'm slowly working myself up to doing a project like this and would like to know.
1. Do you have a problem with people estimating distances by using the flagstones? They look like 1" or 2.5cm squares, and it would drive me nuts if my opponent was measuring off his charges and ranges with them constantly, but if you haven't had that problem, maybe I'm making mountains out of molehills.
2. Does anyone complain about the fact the whole board denies "dig-in" or tunneling powers? Or do you just house-rule that it's okay?
Beautiful work!

Even I can't be bothered to measure distances with the tiles and so far I haven't noticed that anyone does. If someone actually bothers to do so, I'll let them.
Lots of house rules. The waters are either deep or shallow water depending on the scenario. Haven't had any issues yet.
Fantastic work. Great idea with the magnetic lamps. What kind of wood did you use to make the case?

The plywood is genuine finnish birch (very strong but quite heavy) and the frame is cheapest Scots Pine available.
This has me crying MAN TEARS, sir! MAN TEARS! It's just so beautiful... *sniff*
Thanks, Tinman!
It had me crying man tears while I was making it. Glad someone else is crying over it too![]()
