    Default Next Caster

    Hey everyone,

So I've been playing pSorsha a lot lately, but that's mainly because She's the only caster I have. I've been preoccupied by getting other stuff I wanted for my army, and getting a second caster never really worked out to be a priority for me. That being said, I really think it would be a great way to change up my play style and figure out new ways to use some of my models and a bunch of other great stuff. So I would love to hear what you guys think about which caster would work well with what I have now, as well as provide some variety from pSorsha. Thanks in advance for your input.

The models I have already are as follows:

    -PSorsha
    -Juggernaut
    -Destroyer
    -Spriggan
    -Min IFP
--Officer and Standard Bearer(not Black Dragon)
    -Doomreavers
    -Widowmakers
    -Man-o-War Drakhun
    -Widowmaker Marksman
    -Yuri the Axe

And I'm fairly certain that's it. You'll notice it's not much stuff, and there's still plenty on my warmachine wishlist. I just decided that I want to get another caster before making any other purchases. So keeping that in mind, I would appreciate it if you could avoid any replies with "You need Behemoth...", or "Why do you not have the Great Bears!?", or "There is no army without the Winterguard Death Star." I mainly just want to know what people's thoughts are about casters and from there I'll figure out what to get next.

    Thanks,
    --Richard

    pVlad

He makes everything better and you can run almost anything with him. With the stuff you own, pVlad with a Spriggan, Destroyer, Widowmakers, Doom Reavers, and IFP + UA would be very solid. Throw in your solos depending on the point level.

i agree, with s&p up your models will be so much more accurate and when it comes time to feat you have the spriggan which is a solid jack with reach, so you can feat, cast BC on him and slap him with three focus and pretty much destroy whatever he hits. with reach that gives the spriggan a 15" threat range. hope this helps.

    pSorscha 2-2-1 pVlad 6-4-0
    Zerkova 2-4-0 pIrusk 8-4-0

pVlad is a very good choice, but I'd throw in my hat for pIrusk as well. He'll do quite well with those models (max out the IFP once you start making more purchases).

pVlad is a good choice no doubt. But with 3 'jacks, I'll suggest pButcher. I really don't recommend running Irusk 'jack heavy - He needs more Infantry than you have.

Butcher can run 3 'jacks with Full Throttle, and has both Iron Flesh and Fury for the IFP. When it is time to engage, his feat makes both the IFP and Doom Reavers completely over the top.

pVlad seems a little like a one (two) trick pony to me at first glance, which is why I never really considered him, but I'd be willing to give him a try anyway. pIrusk was one who I was already considering and I like him on paper, but that doesn't usually mean too much in warmachine. pButcher was the third caster in addition to Irusk and the Old witch that I was more seriously considering, but again, I'm open to anything. What do you guys think about the Old Witch? I really like a lot of what she brings to the table, but again that's all on paper. pButcher was the third caster in addition to Irusk and the Old witch that I was more seriously considering, but again, I'm open to anything. I should also mention that I haven't yet used all 3 'Jacks at the same time in case that affects anything.

It certainly makes a difference. pIrusk is a very good caster, and he is very good for learning the game (same with pButcher, btw). If you want to try pIrusk out something like pIrusk, Spriggan, IFP, Doom Reavers and Widowmakers would be a very capable 25pt force.

Well I wouldn't necessarily say that I'm looking to learn the game as much as looking for a way to vary my play style. I find that with just Sorsha I end up doing the same thing a lot and I want to add some variety. I wouldn't call myself a master or anything, but I have been playing for over a year. Again, not sure if that changes your recommendations or not. Regardless, I appreciate the input.

pButcher and pIrusk are very good for learning the game with (pVlad as well), but more importantly they are just good warcasters to use. The question which our top tier casters are comes up every now and then and pIrusk usually ends up somewhere at the very top. More relevant for you, they all play completely differently from pSorsha - in that regard, you can't really go wrong.

Yeah, I guess it just comes down to which of the three to pick. I'm not sure, but it seems like one of those three would be my best bet.
