I often cook up homebrew models for no particular reason, other than a man likes to dream. On one such occasion, I happened to wonder what I would be, if I were to make myself a character in Warmachine. I knew that I’d either be a Morrowan or a member of the CRS, as those are my two favorite themes in the game, but I couldn’t narrow it down to just one. Then I figured, since I was dreaming already, why narrow it down at all?
In real life, I enjoy hiking and hunting and generally consider myself agile and stealthy, so the CRS theme fit pretty well. I’m also an honorable combatant (to the point where an armed human killing a defenseless woodland creature can be), so the Morrowan theme was an easy match. A Morrowan Ranger character? Didn’t quite fit. I had to give it a fluff rationalization. Then it dawned on me, in the form of the fluff blurb.
Swift Sergeant Benjamin Prescott has served in the Cygnaran military only a short while, but his numerous encounters with the horrors of the Cryxian empire have quickly hardened his resolve. His unit may spend days, even weeks behind enemy lines well beyond the aid of the main force. After witnessing the deaths of many compatriots at the hands of the Cryx, he realized too late that not only were their lives at steak, but also their souls. Taking it upon himself to train alongside Morrowan battle priests, Prescott has become an initiate of the faith, ushering the souls of his fallen comrades safely to Urcaen and drawing on their strength to fend off the foes of Morrow with bursts of holy radiance that bring light to even the darkest parts of the enemy’s territory.
With a fluff justification in place, I strove not only to make a dream solo, but to make it accurately priced and in-line with the power curve, as well as providing something unique to the faction. So, without further ado:
Sergeant Benjamin Prescott

Prescott
Gatekeeper-When a friendly living faction warrior model is destroyed by an enemy attack, continuous effect or collateral damage from an enemy attack while within this model’s command range, this model gains 1 soul token. This model can have up to 5 soul tokens at any time. During this model’s activation, it can spend soul tokens to buy additional attacks or to boost attack and damage rolls at 1 token per attack or boost.
Ghost Shield-This model gains +1 ARM for every soul token on it.
Revealing Aura-Anytime during its activation, this model can spend 1-5 soul tokens to use Revealing Aura. For 1 round, models (including this model) within 3” of this model + 1” for each soul token spent lose Stealth and Incorporeal. When a ranged attack hits an affected enemy model, the damage roll gains a +2 bonus.
Lightbringer
Radiant Justice-When an attack with this weapon damages an enemy model, for one round that model cannot gain soul tokens.
So there you have it. My challenge to you is to cast yourself as a player in the Warmachine/Hordes saga, based (more or less) on your actual personality. Bonus points for providing a fluff justification, making a character that is balanced (as far as you can perceive it), and something that others would want to play. Have at it!
Edit: Oh, and I'm imagining Lightbringer as about the size of the Trencher Master Gunner's Trench sword, but having the Morrow sunburst as the guard and looking like a caspian battle blade that was broken in half on a slight angle.
