    Default Warmahordes-itize Yourself!

I often cook up homebrew models for no particular reason, other than a man likes to dream. On one such occasion, I happened to wonder what I would be, if I were to make myself a character in Warmachine. I knew that I’d either be a Morrowan or a member of the CRS, as those are my two favorite themes in the game, but I couldn’t narrow it down to just one. Then I figured, since I was dreaming already, why narrow it down at all?

In real life, I enjoy hiking and hunting and generally consider myself agile and stealthy, so the CRS theme fit pretty well. I’m also an honorable combatant (to the point where an armed human killing a defenseless woodland creature can be), so the Morrowan theme was an easy match. A Morrowan Ranger character? Didn’t quite fit. I had to give it a fluff rationalization. Then it dawned on me, in the form of the fluff blurb.

Swift Sergeant Benjamin Prescott has served in the Cygnaran military only a short while, but his numerous encounters with the horrors of the Cryxian empire have quickly hardened his resolve. His unit may spend days, even weeks behind enemy lines well beyond the aid of the main force. After witnessing the deaths of many compatriots at the hands of the Cryx, he realized too late that not only were their lives at steak, but also their souls. Taking it upon himself to train alongside Morrowan battle priests, Prescott has become an initiate of the faith, ushering the souls of his fallen comrades safely to Urcaen and drawing on their strength to fend off the foes of Morrow with bursts of holy radiance that bring light to even the darkest parts of the enemy’s territory.

With a fluff justification in place, I strove not only to make a dream solo, but to make it accurately priced and in-line with the power curve, as well as providing something unique to the faction. So, without further ado:

    Sergeant Benjamin Prescott
    Cygnar Morrowan Ranger Character Solo

    SPD: 7
    STR: 6
    MAT: 6
    RAT: 6
    DEF: 15
    ARM: 11
    CMD: 8
    PC: 3
    FA: C

    Lightbringer (R)

    POW: 4 P+S: 10

    Lever Action Carbine (L)

    RNG: 10 ROF: 2 AOE: - POW: 10

    Prescott

    Gatekeeper-
When a friendly living faction warrior model is destroyed by an enemy attack, continuous effect or collateral damage from an enemy attack while within this model’s command range, this model gains 1 soul token. This model can have up to 5 soul tokens at any time. During this model’s activation, it can spend soul tokens to buy additional attacks or to boost attack and damage rolls at 1 token per attack or boost.

    Ghost Shield-
This model gains +1 ARM for every soul token on it.

    Revealing Aura-
Anytime during its activation, this model can spend 1-5 soul tokens to use Revealing Aura. For 1 round, models (including this model) within 3” of this model + 1” for each soul token spent lose Stealth and Incorporeal. When a ranged attack hits an affected enemy model, the damage roll gains a +2 bonus.

    Lightbringer

    Radiant Justice-
When an attack with this weapon damages an enemy model, for one round that model cannot gain soul tokens.

So there you have it. My challenge to you is to cast yourself as a player in the Warmachine/Hordes saga, based (more or less) on your actual personality. Bonus points for providing a fluff justification, making a character that is balanced (as far as you can perceive it), and something that others would want to play. Have at it!

Edit: Oh, and I'm imagining Lightbringer as about the size of the Trencher Master Gunner's Trench sword, but having the Morrow sunburst as the guard and looking like a caspian battle blade that was broken in half on a slight angle.

Wait, you have Stealth but a sword called "Lightbringer"?

EDIT: I don't want to be seen as a hater. I'll contribute more:

When the Skorne first stepped into the lush forsests of Ios, Houseguard and Mage hunters alike caught their foul wind and responded immediately. The horn sounded, and Feeple resoponded. Orignally a high-ranking member of house Vyre, he atoned for the family's sin the the civil war by joining the Houseguard. He has claimed some smebalance of honor in his humility, and hopes to regain it all in the coming battles. Armed with his spear, a standard, and an odd affinity for the Soulless sent in lieu of reinforcements, Feeple serves to galvanize the Houseguard to repel the Skorne invaders.

Thrust (*Action) When this special attack is used, this weapon is considered to have Armor Piercing for the attack.

Glory Everlasting Once per game, this model may use Glory Everlasting on any models in this Unit. Models affected by Glory Everlasting may not have their armor reduced or negated for one round, and attacks with Sniper may not target this unit.

    Feeple
Fast Friends This model when fielded by itself is a Solo. This model may be fielded with Soulless Escorts, and may only then be considered a Unit. Feeple gains the Officer advantage when he is part of a Unit.

Well, that's a pretty lazy attempt, but whatever.

    I'm totally a joiner.

    Chief Engineer "Crazy Uncle" Doug
    Khador Winter Guard Character Solo

With an odd sense of humor and a love for strong drink and explosives, "Crazy Uncle" Doug has developed a somewhat interesting reputation amongst his peers. Generally quiet, he has a dry sense of humor and is loyal to his peers to a fault. He is prone to experimenting in ways that make his colleagues wonder if he's brilliant or as crazy as his nickname suggests. Actually, just about all figure it's the latter. Despite his liabilities, his flashes of brilliance are welcome on the field and can turn the tide of a battle.

    SPD: 5
    STR: 5
    MAT: 6
    RAT: 6
    DEF: 13
    ARM: 14
    CMD: 8
    PC: 4
    FA: C
    Base: Small
    Damage: 5

    Axe (per Winterguard rules)

    Blunderbuss (per Winterguard rules)

Grenades - RNG: 6, ROF: 1, AOE: 3, POW: 14, Cumbersome - In a turn Grenades are used, he cannot use any other ranged weapon.

Experimentation - Once per turn, "Crazy Uncle" Doug can attempt to try a new mix of blasting powder for friendly faction artillery units in his command range. If he passes a successful CMD check, roll 1d6 and consult the table below:

1 - Oops. The experiment had rather nasty results. Center a 3" AoE on this model. All units within the AoE take unboostable POW 8 blast damage. Friendly Faction artillery fires as normal.
2 - That'll never work. Whatever he tried just will not work, and never will work. Friendly faction artillery in his command range cannot fire this turn.
3 - You Can't Do that! Fortunately his machinations are stopped in time. Friendly faction artillery fires as normal.
4 - BOOM! A stronger powder mix results. Friendly faction artillery within his command range gets boosted damage this turn.
5 - Bullseye! A perfect blend result that allows for greater accuracy. Friendly faction artillery within his command range gets boosted attack rolls this turn.
6 - Flash of Brilliance! Too bad he didn't write what he did down, because this turn Friendly faction artillery within his command range gain boosted attack and damage rolls.

I'll admit, I've played a little too much WFB with random tables that make me giggle with glee even when - or especially when - I hurt myself more than the enemy.

    Leon VanWeissen
    Cygnaran Unit Attachment

The VanWeissen family is a well established family within Cygnaran military lore, and Leon's father, Taros, was instrumental in the Lions Coup. So much so, that the name alone is considered an asset. On this basis, Leon is a well sought after individual, and many a commander wants him assigned to them, . . .until he actually gets there. Where Taros was known for his sword fighting prowess and continues to hold the record for consecutive perfect shots in long gunner tournament history, Leon is known for more hits/injuries sustained by his own unit than the enemy.
Leon is average in both melee and ranged weaponry, and neither training academy will allow him to train. As a result, Taros has been forced to retire in order to try and teach his son everything he knows. However, Leon continues to struggle, despite his fathers tutelage. To make matters worse, he has a temper that rivals that of Khador's Prince Vlad (while still maintaining more sanity the the Butcher), and he will lose all focus if he has too many misses from a ranged weapon, or takes too many dents in armor from an opponent in melee, and will attack wildly.

    SPD:5
    MAT: 5
    RAT: 5
    DEF: 14
    ARM: 16
    CMD: 7
    PC:3
    FA:C

    Rules:

Utilitarian: Leon is trained (though, not necessarily skilled) in all manners of weaponry and fighting styles and, as such, may be attached to any cygnaran infantry unit. He is equipped in the same manner as the unit to which he is attached. His DEF/ARM does not change.

Family Name: Because of his namesake, any living army hearing they will face a VanWeissen for the first time is a bit disorganized and uncertain of their own battle plans. The player fielding Leon may reposition one of their opponents unit or solo after deployment, but before the first round. If two Cygnar players both take Leon, then this benefit is negated.

Heir to the Coup: The name of Taros VanWeissen is well known and strikes fear throughout the IK. Any living unit wanting to charge, or otherwise engage Leon's unit at any time, must first pass a CMD check or retreat by 2 inches and forfeit their action. Leon's unit gains reach for one round. Once engaged, no other CMD checks are necessary because it is clear Leon is no where near as good as his father, and no longer strikes fear in the enemy.

Lack of Focus: Any time Leon misses 2 consecutive attacks, he instantly receives an additional attack at -2 (-2 RAT with a ranged weapon; -2 MAT with a melee weapon). If this attack is with a ranged weapon, the closest model in Leon's front arc (other than the intended target) is automatically hit with +2 damage. If the attack misses with a melee weapon, any model within 2 inches of Leon (other than the target) is automatically hit with +2 damage. If there is no one else around Leon, he falls due to over exertion and is knocked over for the next round.

Lack of Prowess: Leon suffers -1 to all free strike attack rolls, including damage.

I'm not a big strategist, and I thought the beneficial blunderer would be fun to add. (I couldn't decide between 2 or 3 point cost)

    Alright I'll bite then:

    Kevin Young "Lunatic"
    Cygnar Trencher Solo

Lunatic started his military career as a Long Gunner but was thrown into Trencher training after being found with Major Paxon's daughter. Taking to the training well he proudly served in the dirt while gaining a reputation of insane bravery (otherwise known as luck). Redemption came when a Iosan raid befell the Paxon family estate. After hearing that Lunatic and his squad dispatched the elves and saved his family Major Paxon quickly praised the squad for their actions. Now Lunatic and the few survivors of the raid continue to serve the Trenchers of Cygnar fighting near new recruits helping them to hone their skills.

    What the heck:

Rusty tried for many years to become an official Steelhead solider. He could never make the cut. It wasn't until he followed behind a Steelhead army one day, and accidentally distracted the enemy army that a Steelhead commander saw a use for him. Rusty was outfitted with a gun, a sword, and some Steelhead Rifleman armor, and sent out to "deal with the enemy." Rusty found this job to be pretty boring most of the time, so he adopted a small dog to keep him company, which he named Trix. Rusty and Trix now work with the Steelheads and are considered a good luck charm.

I need to lower his stats then. The goal was to get a PC1 model for my Magnus and Damaino Tier Lists

As for the distraction, I think it probably had to do with tripping over a rake, which caused a chicken to jump up, knocking the lamp over, and setting the barn on fire.....

Oh I dunno about lowering your stats. It is a CMD check. The ability won't work all the time or even half the time but it will be funny when it does.

Maybe you should give him immunity to fire since you survived setting the barn on fire then haha!
