Default If you had two hundred dollars....

I don't *think* this is a List thread. Apologies to Mods who judge differently.

So, a friend (who has absolutely no knowledge of WM but has seen my collection) walks into my house with a cubic foot or two of miniatures made by another company. "Can you take these, sell them, spend that money and give me whatever they are worth in Menoth figures? Whatever you think is good, but I want the floating chick."

So, what would you buy her?

Let's start with the Menoth half of the Two Player box:
    Kreoss
    Crusader
    Vanquisher
    Repenter
    Max Cinerators

    Then the requested floating chick:
    Harbinger

I was thinking that if I added:
    Max Choir
    Vassal
    Eiryss
    Rhoven & friends

She would get a broad feel for the game and for the Protectorate.

I mean it has a pair of casters, a melee heavy, a ranged heavy, a light jack, a unit of heavy infantry, a unit of lighter infantry who also have a couple of tricks, some support guys (which means she gets to learn what it is that the protectorate *does*), and Eiryss (helpful for learning assassination runs, I believe).

What do you guys think? Am I missing anything, flavour-wise?

Instead of eyriss and roven I would probably pick up some errants and the book, start getting her used to units and menoth synergy.
    Just my two cents though,
And tell her we are glad to have another convert :-)

Yeah, I thought about that, except that with the Cinerators she'll have a unit she can learn the rules with.

I would suggest either max TFG or max Zealots. A nice bulky infantry unit to throw in the opponents path. I love Cinerators to death, but a deploying a 5 model medium base unit doesn't have the same feel as throwing down a full 10 man squad. Especially if they have reach!
Space reserved for sometime in the not so distant future when I may or may not think of something wise/funny/intelligent to say.

With Cinerators you are basically giving her a unit that she will probably field only rarely when she gets to expanding to the faction proper. Consider this instead of the 2 player box half:

Regular Battlebox (Kreoss, Crusader, Revenger, Repenter)
    Harbinger
    10 TFG
    1 Protectorate heavy jack kit.
    1 Reckoner
    Choir box
    Rhupert
    Vassal

If you look around at deals online you should be able to find all that for around 200, might even have enough left over for a tfg unit attachment or a reclaimer. Gives her a good spread of jacks and support, an excellent tarpit unit that is a mainstay of the faction and room to grow. You may also consider swapping the extra heavy kit for heavy hitting infantry, as a new plastic version of regular Knights Exemplar is coming out soon.

What Gavriel said. The 2 player BB is good, but what was listed is a good, diverse and flexible force. I personally would talk out FG for a max unit of Errants plus UA, but that's just me. Don't want to start another TFG vs. KEE discussion.

Well i would find out what he/she might like as a playstyle. especially since they used to play a different minis game it should be easy to figure out. Menoth can be a tough start for some but i would suggest support pieces very strongly and if they don't like units that have to have support then i'd lean away from menoth

Yeah, I thought about that, but I actually think that the little rulebook that comes with the 2-player set would be incredibly useful for a starting player to own.

That is very true, it is basically how I started. I do agree that a full unit of some type of small based infantry is the way to go though
