Zerkova: Fools! How hard can it be to kill one measily elf? Where the hell is he anyway?
Narn: I is in your base, killing all your doodz!
Zerkova: Harsh!
Huhn. I've never had a lot of trouble with Circle (generally). Just kind of surprised with the 0-6. Circle is like a giant pincusion for Snipe/Feat/Go from Ravyn or the "normal" attrition game from Ossy. I dunno, obviously just my opinion on this one so no need for people to tell me I'm wrong! It was just surprising to me.
Not recently. And my sample size is small (we have a couple of circle players but they've been playing other factions and don't drag their circle out a lot) and please note I said "generally" - there's always bad match ups. I'm just commenting based on my own experiences, I'm not trying to make any grand statements of fact. For example, generally, I have the most trouble with Legion - at least until I started running the Vyros NQ tier list and just said "heck with stealth".
On the flip side for our journeyman league I ran Circle and the one player running Ret consistently beat me. Part of that you can blame on me, part on my newness to the hordes mechanics (she played ret before and was using the league as motivation to paint) and part on the stupid Circle battle box I was stuck with for 5 weeks but the point is, in my experience, ret seemed to kill circle (i.e., I win with ret, I lose with circle). Just me though!
Back to the original point though, I was surprised it was 0-6 vs Circle. Sample size is small and you don't know who was playing who but I figured ret would have picked up at least one of those games rather than lose them all. Just surprising is my point.
I played (and lost) to circle in the first round of the team tournament. Vyros t4 list vs kromac. I had never faced kromac before and knew he had a really awesome fear and threat range. Because of this, i was kind of afraid to bring vyros too close to the action. My opponent was fortunate to have a Forrest in which to hide his stalker within charge range of the objective. A well placed spray from the pureblood got the sentinel ua before vengeance went off. It was just a really bad game for the elves.
We just had a ret player (IRSMARTLIKEROCK) take 1st at Taps (TheCrucible), and otherwise go toe to toe with the nastiest stuff most factions had to offer.

My Retribution - 60 models, 127/149 points painted. Retribution Achievements
Telryn, aka Goncalvo Serrano - From Khador With Love
Good for him. Taps was the qualifier for the main Crucible tournament, which he finished tenth in. Great showing for Ret compared to how we normally do. How big was the tournament? It seemed pretty small from what was listed, but maybe that was not all the players.
I will admit its frustrating that so few players bring Ret to tournaments which hinders the faction IMHO. For example last year Watt brought Ret to Adepticon. He just grabbed a list of "what he had painted" and placed second I think? Third?
http://privateerpressforums.com/show...tion-Adepticon
It can be done! I'm just as guilty of it - I was planning on bringing ret to Adepticon for the team tournament but my partner and I decided to go Cryx/Cryx instead. Next year though I'm bringing my Ret to Adepticon, come hell or high water.
I think Ret would make a decent showing if more people just showed up with them. The tools are all there, the players aren't.
I am bringing Ret to Orccon, Kingdomcon, Lock and Load and possibly Gencon. I don't know how I will do, as I have never played a tournament outside my local meta before (and we all know how little local tournament wins mean), but we shall see.
Personally I think Ret is weaker than the other factions, but I am hoping that the surprise factor of playing non Rayvn Retribution will carry me when I face DJ, Avatar, B13, BLT, WGDS, etc.
I dunno if weaker is the word I would use, Probably unforgiving, I do find my legion stuff a lot easier to win with, When I play ret I can't really make any mistakes and still win.
Non Ravyn ret won't be so much of a surprise to people, I still run into many players that havn't saw ret many times at all and have no clue what my models do, so those people will be none the wiser. Then many player you will see will run rahn and something not ravyn.
That being Said, I have a hard time not bringing Ravyn as one of my lists, She solves so many problems and hard matchups.
Who else can say they have a hard counter to eHaley? eHaley's feat messing up order of activations about screws any of our other casters and our models generally aren't resilient enough to have a turn of doing nothing and live to tell about it.
She also solves your problem of most of the Cygnar and menoth factions and she's really good against a lot of troll lists. Having one of your casters handle the bulk of 3 factions and still be useful against parts of others is really good.
I think ossyan and Rahn and Kaelysa are all worthy casters for your other lists as well.
I'm focusing on Ravyn Rahn and Ossyan for this years con season.
ossyan for legion primarily
Sig Changed at Ed's request, he's still my fav though.
My two masters losses were to a pThagrosh list. Where I couldn't roll to save my life; when 2 fully buffed Manticores can't kill 1 Scythean with Spiny Growth and pThagrosh's Aura. You know things are going to go horribly wrong for you. The sad part is that I didn't even need to Charge. I had 8 Pow 20's so Dice -2 and I still needed Kaelyssa to finish it off with her gun and using it's Fury to Boost Damage.
Second loss was to a eGaspy list. My biggest mistake was forgetting about the Bile Thralls which Purged most of my list off of the board. Garryth survived his Feat'ed Models, with 1 box left. He has a Bile Purge and do no damage; but then I die to Corrosion.
All in all it was a lot of fun and my overall record was 11-4.
Great work! You mind posting lists and battle reports for the masters event?
I played you that Saturday afternoon/night in the 2nd qualifiers and I'm still amazed at how fast your force was across the table. I had been thinking of Ret before the Crucible but you certainly changed some of my ideas for list building. It was a really fun game and certainly felt like I was in school :P

You know it!
Though I hold that Garryth can run two heavies well too :P
Myrmidon Mayhem (Latest report: 12/03/2013)
[Anna Dmitrievna (Storm Sorceress|Spy)]| [Cloe Diego (Alchemist|Thief)]
I have used that Garyth list just like it is posted with no difference whatsoever. Awesome!
WARMACHINE/Hordes no more.
The way I play Garryth is constantly using Gallows, Death Sentence and his Pistols. I never have enough Focus to fun another jack.
I'm loving the list tbqh. Lots of fast hard hitters and I'm out swarming everything. I actually put Mirage on the MHSF and not the Sentinels. Rat 8 with 14" effective threat, and you can't just run to Engage them has saved me many a times. I help out Sentinels threat with Gallows and Force Bolt.
I love 2 manticores with Kae, but I still don't do it till 50, mainly because I like invictors with halbs so much.
Sig Changed at Ed's request, he's still my fav though.
and at the risk of letting IRSMARTLIKEROCK's head get too big, it's worth mentioning that he went on a total kill spree vs. my locals when he arrived from Portland. Something like 8-0. He's lucky his old PG didn't decide to put him back in place![]()
Orlando Warmachine!! http://www.amorousarmadillo.com/
Well it was actually only 7 wins. So over the space of 1 week I went 18-5.
The last game I played was with Garryth (with no scenario... foolish us!), and the last few turns was a threat range stand off vs. pVlad where all I had left was Discordia, Garryth, and a Magister, and they took down A&H, the last Great Bear, about half of the Nyss Hunters (Cylena was killed earlier), and the War Dog. The Magister eventually died, but I was able to Mirage/walk through a forest to get to Vlad and try to kill, but I was 2 damage short.
In this particular situation, I felt that I couldn't have fueled another myrmidon. I needed to upkeep Mirage, use the Imprint, and boost to hit the Nyss Hunters & A&H. I guess if I'd brought a Manticore or Phoenix, I could have used just one focus to boost hitting, but I chose Sentinels, instead, which did a good job cutting up Doomreavers, Great Bears, and a Juggernaut. The more attacks i don't need to use focus for, the better.
Maybe I'll give it a shot, though. It's been a while since I've used more than 1 myrm in my BG outside of Rahn.
I'm actually liking the Idea of two manticores and a chimera vs the 2 manticores and a phoenix i had been doing previously with Kae, I may give that a try.
Sig Changed at Ed's request, he's still my fav though.
Maybe if someone painted their models I could tell them apart...
Really though it was a lot of fun, and I hope to do it again next year.
Seeing this thread makes e want toconsider playing my Ret over my Khador at Lock and Load. Especially once I finish my rebasing project.
