Nothing screams Cajun Bayou like the good old Mud Bug. How can we have all of these bayou monsters without our favorite and most delicious crustacean?
Lets brainstorm. What kind of beast/warrior unit would it be? What kinds of abilities?

Sustained attack on the claws maybe? Maybe trash instead, an extra damage dice verses knocked down targets would be nice and Blindwater has some solid knockdown abilities.
Id say spiny growth for the animus but thats already taken. Besides weve got plenty of defensive animi. Ahh range six give target trash. Call it Scavenger.
I want a lesser Warlock with that for the Talon Charter.
Thamarite Privateer Croak Hunter Lesser Warlock:
Slimy Git
SPD 6, STR 7, MAT 6, RAT 5, DEF 14, ARM 16, CMD 7
Spells: Gallows
12 Life
Fork
Reach, Insidious Wounds, POW 5
Shell
Shield+2, Girded, POW 1
FURY 3
Dat Thing, Crab Warbeast:
SPD 5, STR 11, MAT 6, RAT - DEF 13, ARM 18, FURY: 3
Amphibious, Steady, Pathfinder
Claws x 2, POW 3, Armor Piercing, Open Fists, Buckler+1, Chain attack: Grab and Smash
(They should add up to natural ARM 20)
Animus: Spiny Growth
Contracts: Talion charter, Blindwater Congregation, Skorne, Cryx, Fourstar
Give it a spray, because, why not.
Wholeheartedly on board with a crawdad/crayfish/crab-style armored beast for the Congregation.
Crab riders = our cavalry, put gobbers on them with mini howdas!
Mud bug solos. Similar to whelps, but can also heal the posse and solos. Low p+s melee weapon with gang, and can deploy from a water feature.
I miss Louisiana, so much good eating...
As I said in a post when the Boneswarm was first announced, I am more in favor of swamp creature-style beasts. I like the voodoo theme and all, but I think that translates better to units and solos than warbeasts. So let's get a crawfish, a big lizard, a giant snake. All of these things could easily be brought into the army and fit quite well.
If they're going to keep Gators as the beast heavy faction (opposed to Farrow), throw a little variety into the beasts.
OoooOOoooo I like the idea of crawfish cavalry. But I totally picture bog trogs riding on them for they are already perfect with their reach weapons and small size.
CAVALRY route
Mount attack x2 P+S 12
Combat Rider
Steady
Amphibious
Pathfinder
WARBEAST route
Sustained attack or Combo Smite for sure!
Critical catastrophic damage or critical weapons systems damage (I can totally picture it cutting of a jacks arm :SNAP
Steady
Amphibious
Pathfinder
Animus
Hurt Locker - The model can make a weapon/head lock power attack for free and and the arm/weapon used for the lock causes damage.
Range 6"
How about critical lock? "On a critical hit against a Warbeast or Warjack this model immediately performs a head/weapon lock. Nominate the location you are locking prior to rolling the opposed STR check." Also I think it would be nice if they added an ability that made the lock more viable like adding an extra d3 to opposed STR checks. I don't think that would be too overpowered or under-powered and fits with both the gator theme and mud bug aesthetic.
Maybe it could perform an additional normal attack against the locked model with the weapon it is locking with?
"Let's not be English, French or German any more. Let's be European. No, not European, let's be men. Let's be humanity. All we have to do is get rid of one last piece of egocentricity - patriotism."
- Victor Hugo (1802-85)
I don't see a beast like that making good cavalry. Too slow. A rider might give some sort of benefit to control though.
Apathy is Cowardice
Admittedly gobbers riding crawdads would be really funny. However I think it would be more fun as a good heavy hitting heavy warbeast. Count the claws as open fists and maybe give them sustained attack. When I was younger I went crawfish/crawdad "fishing" with yarn, paper clips, and hotdog chucks (it does work) The little suckers would latch on and then pull really hard to try and get away with the meat. Sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't. Maybe they could have a special ability that if they hit with both initial claws that they could then pull both themselves and the hit model some distance (say 3"-6" or so) directly backwards. It could be fun for those models that you just can't get to with more than one beast. Either that or if they don't hit with their initial attacks that they could run away but remain facing he same direction. I think this could be a really cool monster with some tweaks.
Not really up on the Gators so I won't try to add rules but had a thought about the opposed str check for the lock attack: Add the weapons POW to your str for the check? So say 11 str then 3 weapon power plus a D3 = 15 to 17
Other factions best without buffs or character jack/beasts:
Ret: 11-13
Menoth: 12-14
Skorne, Circle, = 14 to 16
Legion, Trolls, Cryx, Cygnar, Khador = 13 to 15
It's powerful but for the most part they could buff and get a good chance to get out.
Too many good ideas to make my mind up! But if Blindwater gets a crawdad, they simply have to get a character solo based on the fiddler crab. He can be called' Mister Craw' and have one giant claw.
Hang on, I'm gonna try and get all of this stuff into a single template;
Crawdad
Minion Gatorman Heavy Warbeast
SPD STR MAT RAT DEF ARM CMD FURY THR FA PC
. 5 . .11. . 5. . .3. .11. . 18. . 7 . . 4. . . 9 . U. 10
Mind 8
Body 10
Spirit 10
Weapons
Pincers (L, R)
POW 4, P+S 15
- Open Fist
- Cruncher: This model adds the POW of this weapon to its STR checks when making locks with this weapon and when another model attempts to break a lock made with this weapon.
- Bone Breaker: If this model is holding a lock with this weapon at the start of its combat action, it can make an initial attack with this weapon without releasing the lock. (Tactical tip: It cannot make additional attacks with the weapon).
- Critical Grab: On a critical hit, this model can make a lock attempt after damage is resolved. (Tactical tip; After damage is resolved, the controlling player must choose which weapon system to lock and then roll the opposed strength check. These strength checks benefit from Cruncher.)
Special Rules
- Steady: Immune to knockdown.
- Hurl (*Attack): If this model is holding a lock at the start of its combat action, it can make a Hurl special attack. This model makes an opposed strength check against the model it is locking. If it succeeds, this model throws the model being locked. (Tactical tip: The Hurl attack overrides the general rule that models cannot make special attacks while holding a lock. The strength check for Hurl does not benefit from Cruncher.)
Animus: Scavenge
COST RNG AOE POW UP OFF
. .2. . . 6. . - . . - . .NO .NO
Target friendly Faction warbeast gains Trash (a model with Trash rolls an extra dice of damage against knocked down targets).
@Lachlan the Mad
Ok PP, this is correct and finalized. Make it so and
