the washed out orange goes really well with the dark blue. I like the damage on the Stormclad's shield too. Well done.

Thing that sticks out the most to me is the great pose for the Defender.

    Thanks!

I understand that the fairly bold colours are not to everyone's tastes, but I like painting in strong colours.

I really, really like that orange. Contrasts with the darker blue really well.

The orange is actually pretty simple.

    I prime black
then a very light coat of ember orange
then a coat of red ink
then a coat of ember orange mixed with red ink in a roughly 3:2 mix
    then straight ember orange
then mix in some white for the first round of highlights
then some more the second round
and then I do a quick run of a more watered down mix of the orange/red ink mix to bring out some of the shadows again.

all of these are fairly well watered down.

I think this scheme is great and the orange and blue have been done well dude. One thing, on some of the models it looks like the metal could use a bit more work. It just looks (too) drybrushed, there is a fair bit of black showing still in some of the photos. I'd say a bit more drybrushing to smooth it out or a 2nd tone of silver should do it. Its only some of the earlier stuff, both units look great.

@Washburn, you're right. Metallics are something I've often struggled to get right, despite how simple people tell me they are to paint. Part of it is probably the fact that they are often some of the last things I paint, and I generally just prefer painting with strong colours.

I am making more effort with them these days though, and the results do seem to be improving.

Thanks for looking, and fir commenting! I'm hoping to get some more stuff up soon, but real life has been kicking my *** this last week.

I think you might like the results of painting the metal straight on then hitting it with washes. I am totally with you though- metallic paint is a pain to apply because it tends to thicken and act all moody.
