Default CIRCLE ORBOROS - the Hooded Men (and women, that is...)

    Hello everyone,

this thread I am starting today will contain every part of my painted Circle Orborors collection. 2 and a half years have past since I started painting them. The goal collecting the faction was and still is to have every miniature I own for this system not only just, but as well painted as I could (well, without producing a pure vitrina model that is - still wanna play with that stuff).
Thus you will see my painting techniques develop from the first miniature (that being 2.5 years ago) to the most recent one. The evolution doesn't stop of course, but as far as I see it I am quite satisfied with the direction into which it proceeds.

So enough talk. Let's start with the oldest one 'till we reach the newest...

I have also included links to the respective threads of some of the newer miniatures, namely the Gorax, Bloodweavers, Totem Hunter and Shadowhorn Satyr. You can access them via the grey written headlines.

From this point on, all my Circle stuff to be done will be shown in this thread. There is still enough left:

    10 Bloodtrackers + UA
    Viktor Pendrake
    Lanyssa Ryssyl
    Feralgeist
    Warpwolf Stalker
    Wolf Lord Morraig
    Druid Gone Wilder

Just feel encouraged to comment and critize it. I am still learning, so if the criticism is a constructive one I'll be glad to give it a try during the painting of the coming models.

    So... have fun...!

scrolling through and seeing the difference in your painting is so amazing your nmm gets better with every model!!
i only started painting as a hobby 9 months ago, so this gives me inspiration to knowing how much more i can improve over time.

thankyou so much for posting these, i love them (the totem hunter and world guardian are simply stunning, my two faves in the collection)

The totem hunter's skin markings give it an interesting different look. Very nice, my favorite model in your list of very nice paint jobs.

Love the totem hunter. It is actually one of my favourite models that PP make as I think the sculpt is just fantastic and your paint job really does it justice!

Showing the transition of the paintjobs`qualities from the older to newer models was the basic idea of including the older models in this thread. I hope this helps less experienced or motivated players to also give it a try painting their miniatures if having the time to do so. I can tell you I have been there where you might be right now, too. It might be funny to read that, but I actually hate painting (not as much as I hate playing with unpainted and unassembled models on my side of the board, but still...)!

Painting stuff simply includes frustration. Doing it proper demands mostly the right equipment and then simple discipline. If you can manage both of them you will get satisfying results eventually.

I hope this didn't sound too much like lecturing...

Good luck, then...! I'd love to see the result, when it's finished.

I took some liberties with the skin of the Feral I have to admit. The fur on its back is inspired by a dogs fur, though. These days I'd paint its skin differently (not as plain as it is), if I would ever paint another one that is. Luckily its paintjob fits quite well into the rest of the army so that I don't have to repaint him.

Apart from the Feral every living warbeast and most of the other living models are inspired by real animals or real life examples, yes:

The Argi got their pattern from dingos and rottweilers. The Gnarlhorn was inspired by mouflons, the Shadowhorn by impalas. The Gorax got it's pattern from the honey badger. The Warwolf from a timberwolf/jackal. The Pureblood, well, from an arctic wolf. Even the Totem Hunter got (some) influences from the cheetah's fur. Also some of the warriors schemes are based on real life examples.

To me this appeared to be the best approach to get the right balance of colours for a model. I found out that it is simply easier painting a good working colour combination based on real life examples than creating one yourself out of your own imagination.

I like your use of vivid colors. I've been running out of ideas of new fur tones for the furries in our army, and am feeling inspired by some of yours. Our Mohsars are almost identical in scheme as well. lol

Love the Satyrs. And the skintone on the wilder, and the pattern on Kruegers cloak, and whole bunch of the other stuff. The Tharn ladies in purple (?) aren't my thing but the execution is very well done. Solid well, and sometimes great, painted force.
Faces of death fade to gray. As generals justify. The price that must be paid. To feed this War Machine.

Gorgeous work, and impressive improvement. I particularly like the shadowhorn & the totem hunter. In critique I'd say you need to work on your NMM. Looking forward to seeing more of your army.

    I do agree with you.

It is still improving but with some results I am not as satisfied as I want to be. Particularly the Totem Hunters blade I find not executed well. Thus I might repaint it, when the rest is done. The slowly progressing NMM-Evolution is also the reason, why I placed the Warpwolf Stalker more at the end of the "production" line.

Because I am not that a fast painter, I think the rest of the models (aka the last planned wave) will take the coming 10 months for completion. Thus please don't worry if there won't be a weekly update ofthe project. Work will proceed, models will be finished, but simply at a slow pace.

Anyway here is a pic of the actual project on the table:

Here is a beta-Version of my first Wolve. The spears pommel is made of Greenstuff.

I think I am gonna repaint the colours on the the spears blade (as usual) and blacken out the fringes of the coats fur.

Apart from these things I am quite satisfied with this Wolves colour combination! No blazing colours like the Shadowhorn, but this was intended.

I just hope noone expected something extraordinary with these troop of "grunts" ...!

    Woah,

the sixth Wolf (Huntsman) really fought it, but after a long painting session I was able to finish him. Thus I managed to finish the base number of Wolves. (It's not my best foto, but I think you can imagine where we are going at. I'll make a better one, when I've completed the max. Unit /w UA).

    What's next?

Gallows Growes (2), slowly but surely. After that I will return to the Wolves doing the UA and the last 4 Wolves.

I'm in love with these. Your war wolf especially just blew my mind. The two satyrs are also amazing. Overall, these are miniatures it would be a pleasure to fight with or against at any time, and they'd enrich any gaming table they were put on.

I love this. A very different look than what I usually see on PP stuff. I think the shadowhorn is my favorite, the skin looks excellent. It's really cool seeing the progression of your NMM, I can tell all your hard work is paying off as it is getting better with each model. Your NMM golds are really good in particular.

    Mia san mia!
