Talking First Game with Legion OMG

Finally had my first game with my Legion last night - and went far better than expected.

    My List - 35pts
    Saeryn
    Typhon
    Carnivean
    Shredder
    Striders
    Min Raptors
    Shepherd
    Forsaken

I was up against Cygnar with eNemo, Thunderhead, some other large beatstick jack - two medium jacks and assorted shooty stuff.

Was about to win on scenario when time ran out but won on attrition anyways.

    A few things I learned:

Typhon with Excessive Healing = WIN
Carnivean is a absolute wrecking ball (one turn 2 pts short of destroying thunderhead)
Striders are good but would be great with UA
Raptors seem great for distraction / board control - squishy casters have to deal with them early or get shot to bits.
Saeryn's feat - OMG is this for real. I am sure plenty of players have worked out how to counter it and I will learn these counters the hard way.
Being new to hordes I didn't realise how important it is to leave at least 1 fury off your beasts for the transfers. Also order of ops is much more important than WM.

A bit of fine tuning is probably in order:

A few options I was thinking.

Carn -> Scythean and drop Shepherd to add Strider UA
Carn -> Scythean (fixed original post) and drop shredder and shepherd and add Protector

Any other thoughts appreciated from this newbie. I think I like this faction.

There are no angles in this list. This is a problem. Get angle(s) in the list with Saeryn, and you'll see why she's in every tourny list pairing.

What Jaster said. Drop the Carnivean for the Angelius, rather than the Sythean to take the strider UA.

As for the Protector, you can get shouted down just for mentioning him round here. He's not popular, a very defensive piece in a very aggressive faction. I think he's an OK choice for a beginner, and a good looking model, but not competitive.

Also, I have successfully used a second shredder (with a martyr, sometimes) as a 16'' range blight bringer beacon. works fine agains clumped infantry.

Hey Jaster, can you go into a little detail here. I think I know what you are talking about (diff threat angles) but I would love to hear about your specifics.

    Angels, he means Angelius.

Saeryn, loves angels. Feat, flying charge, dead caster with no free strikes.

Thank you for the responses. I wasn't sure about this angelius thing - particularly in scenarios but after a good nights sleep I think they would in fact be infinitely better for scenario play.

Virtual auto hits at dice +4 damage will disable objectives with 1 - maybe 2 hits. Add in repulse and you have an awesome objective taking / control zone taking piece. I will be trying this out next time. I wonder if going second could in fact be an advantage with scoring being on the second palyers second turn.

Also as noted the flying charge on the caster is a big threat in conjunction with the raptors and blight bringer - should be able to keep most warnouns a long way back giving saeryn good board control and allowing her to get further forward.

Angels get a lot of good with Saeryn. With her feat they can charge ignoring free strikes (or rather immune to melee attacks), and breath stealer makes it really hard for anything to engage them on the enemy's terms. Between Repulse, their speed, a hand cannon, and flight, they can skirmish like crazy until they're good and ready to swoop in for the armor pierce.

eVayl likes Angels too. They're phenomenal targets for both Admonition and Refuge.
