well i am sure this has been drilled into the ground but, who is everyones favorite combo with Thor? Now this does not mean the best combo, simply what do you all like to mix up with him?

The Basher is really the only good choice for Thor. You'll find people who like using gun bunnies on him, but most of the time its because they've not worked out that the pseudo focus you get from JM can't be used to pay for the double boost. You could use a Avalancher for the gun.
The Basher has good synergy with Thor because he can slam for free which is pretty much what you want him to do. A model that can give a warjack with no focus a focus would be really helpful.
If you're a brand new Menite please read this thread before posting: http://privateerpressforums.com/show...-the-battlebox
The arguement for Thor with the Bunnies is with the Blaster often you only need to boost the Attack OR the Damage roll so you can use Tune Up to get that and then use the JM point to boost either a single Attack or Damage roll. The Gunner can net the same effect of a focus by using the JM point to boost your Attack roll and Tune Up to boost your Damage roll, or vise averse. Pronto is used to get to a better position for LOS.
Personally I like to give Thor a Basher and an Avalancher. Avalancher gets Tune Up on Damage rolls while the JM point is used to boost the Attack roll. Again Pronto is used for better positioning. Once something big comes by the Basher goes in and knocks it on its arse. With this combo Thor can stay back and out of harms way while marshaling jacks that I think are better on him then on either caster. This might change once we see what General Ossrum brings to the table.

Two gunners. Accept no substitute.
Blaster's beautiful. Make a full advance, then aim or make ANOTHER full advance, then boost all attacks and one damage, or all damage and one attack? Yes, please.

You don't have to take my word for it:
2 Gunners or 1 gunner one blaster. Being able to reach out an smack something with a boosted rat 6 shot and boosted pow 12 from 22" is really great for putting some hurt on something early and applying pressure. Also the bunnies are pretty tough for a 3 point model.
I tend toward a blaster if I am being cheap, or the avalanche if I am running madhammeer and want to absolutely hit something and hurt it (4D6 to hit and on blast damage is pretty hot).
Thor with an Avalancher. Firing into my opponents AD zone on the first turn makes me giggle. I know it makes him a huge target but for some reason nobody seems to be able to kill him.
I prefer running a Rockram with Thor. Tune upp attack rolls and use Jack marshal to Assult (and pronto).
Both Attacks(melee and ranged) has good chance to crit and the Rockram with the Pow 18 Charge attack does good damage.
And the slight extra armor from the buckler and the possible loss of initial attacks from the victim makes it have a good chance to give it a second beating next turn.
I take Thor with a Blaster, I then use them as anti-stealth/anti-high DEF hunters. The Blaster with Pronto is surprisingly manoeuvrable to enable you to get the best position for a spray on a group of models. In general stealth/high DEF targets tend to have low armour so 'Tune Up' allows multiple boosted to hit shots and the marshal gives a single boosted damage roll if required.
I do not yet own a Rhulic caster, so Thor is the only way to put Rhulic jacks in my lists, hence loosing out on powerful shot is not a big problem for me.
A friend of mine keeps telling me to use a Basher, which can be used for the same purposes in a way because of flak field but has the added benefit of being able to pull off some nice slams. However that is an extra 4(?) pts which I havent made room for yet.
This thread may help you make a decision.

Mostly I have to say he gets a single Gunner. But I have run him with 2 Gunners or a single blaster or a single Basher before.

I'm just a simple Thor and Basher person. 9 points puts him right at Lesser Warlock points. Basher deals with Iron Flesh Kayazy and change of vector slams are some of the more powerful attacks in the game.
Only the insane have strength enough to prosper. Only those who prosper may truly judge what is sane.
Right now I run Thor with a basher, a blaster, and a Bokur. I then run them as their own mini army in my army taking control points and holding them forever.
R.I.P. Greedo1379
Basher gains - Slam targets behind other models and weaponmaster.
Rockram gains - 19" threat on gun and weaponmaster.
Avalancher gains - snipe and weaponmaster.
These are my 3 fav's, in this order.

A Basher if I need more crowd control.
An Avalancher if I need more ranged threat.
Also, I never field Thor without his attachment Lord Rockbottom, especially if Thor is marshaling a Basher. Failing that critical Drive can be disastrous, and having your other models/units auto-pass command checks is just gravy.
Thor, Basher and Lanyssa Ryssyl. Just for the occassional extra range and free charge. Not great, but about the best Lanyssa can deliver.
Heh. I like the idea of Thor, Rockbottom, and two blasters out Stealth-hunting. In all likelihood, they'd be pointless, though.
Thor is only really good with a Basher or Blaster. Avalancher does get a bonus, but it's pretty pointless as you will almost never hit a second target with the blast radius.

may be a dumb question but since a blaster/gunner uses 1 focus to do a "Powerful Attack" does that allow Thor to use this since he is a JM and not a caster?
I'm more fond of the Avalancher than I probably should be, because of the Move Aim Shoot (double-boosted) and Move Move Shoot (double boosted) setups, without needing caster focus and without putting Thor at any great risk.
For me it's mostly "And Gorten"
I don't care what he brought as long as he can still tune up Gorten's driller. Usually I just give him a spray bunny.
Bit of an aside. I've been Red Lining an Avalancher..and it's been working for me. The extra movement really let's it position well on those early turns. The damage it takes from Red Line doesn't matter much because the high Arm 21 keeps it beefy. Dang thing's survived trading shots with a Stormwall! With hardly any system damage and no inactive systems.
Anyway on Thor. Thor + Avalancher is mostly an idea for say Fiona where it's got some utility a Mariner lacks for 3 more points. Thor + Basher is really strong. Thor + Blaster's is very effective for how cheap it is and often a very great addition to any merc army.
Thor + Driller has something to say for itself in Shae's new Tier list. As does a Rockram. (Coup De Maine gives a focus free charge so JM bonus goes to extra attack. So Tune Up's gonna be on 3 attacks and the dang thing's gonna move like a rocket)
Gunner's are kind of weak with Thor though. I mean they work ok for being a boosted attack roll hand cannon shot but you typically won't tune up them.
Optimistic theory crafting pirate loving merc player.
Curious; does Rockbottom give CMD 10, or CMD 11? Seems like 6+5 is 11, but I don't remember if theres a maximum cap on the CMD stat.
Anyway, I've seen Thorn marshalling a Basher before, and its pretty sweet. You need to somehow find a way to aim Thor, but its not entirely easy unless you have a lot of guns and can afford to throw it his way, e.g. Cygnar or RoS.
Rockbottom isn't a Commander. You don't roll your check and compare to his. You roll, see if you failed, then use his coin to make you succeed if you failed. It's a back-up plan for when you fail.
EDIT: Yes, it is 11.
Rockbottom starts with CMD 11, but he does not give it to anyone, as he is not a commander. Bought loyalty just buys automatic successes on already failed command rolls.
edit: ninja'ed
Ah fair enough. I always assumed Bought Loyalty only worked on Pirates, and that he was a Commander haha. Good to clear that up though.
I just like the Basher. Keeping it simple.

I take whatever combo does the job I need it to. I've run dual Gunners on Thor as a flanking/solo-hunting module, and I've run an Avalancher on him for ranged support. I've run the Basher on him to curb-stomp heavies that thought they were out of Slam range. I even ran a Driller *and* a Basher on Thor a few times, although that was with the Olgunholt Corbeau so I don't expect to do that again.
One thing to note about Thor and Gun-bunnies: I've used Explosivo and Durgen's feat to give them pseudo-Powerful Shot a couple times. Thor can drive the Gunners into position and use Tune Up on a heavy 'jack, then Durgen casts Explosivo and feats. Finally the bunnies hop up and take boosted attacks at solos or clustered troops, boost the damage on direct hits with Thor's Marshal boost, and get POW 6 + 3d6 rolls against anything caught in the blast. It's surprisingly effective, and good against Incorporeal models, clumps of Stealthed stuff, and high-DEF troops.

Even just one blaster usually gets that job done.
Basher
Blaster
Gunner
'lancher
Any combination of these on Thor have gotten me good to excellent results
I just wish Bashers weren't so... ugly. Their strange looks are an impediment to my using them. I guess I prefer stuff like the Avalancher and Rockram.
Sure, aesthetics shouldn't stand in the way of usefulness... but if they didn't matter, we'd just be using cardboard tokens instead of models, now wouldn't we?
I like the Mobile artillery so I bring the Avalancher. I also like the blaster. I like to use something to clear out a line that perhaps got engaged and I need it to charge. Tune up the blaster. Line up the shot. Spray off the intruders and advance with the wrecking crews. I also like the avalancher because it doesn't need a loader (mariner) and I can (as the others have said) Tune Up, Move, Aim, Shoot or Tune up, Move, Move, Shoot.
I don't own a basher yet, but I will soon. I need a face smasher. I like the basher because it schools stuff around. It's all good.
Basher, blaster, Avalancher. Whichever I have points for.
