    Default SPOILER! Hordes Colossals Named

Holding the new NQ in my hands. The new NQ extra speedy subscription service is awesome and the magazine now comes bagged. The important part though is that the Hordes Colossals have been named by Jason Soles.

    Circle: Woldwrath!
    Trolls: Mountain King!
    Legion: Archangel!
    Skorne: Mammoth!

I felt those all deserved exclamation points.

    Circle: Woldwrath- YEAH!
Trolls: Mountain King- Depends, but most likely, YEAH!
Legion: Archangel- YEAH! Wait, angel? Oh god, please don't tell me it lives up to it's name...
Skorne: Mammoth- Booo... Exactly what the schorne players weren't asking for, but it might be cool.

I felt those all deserved exclamation points.

I don't think (though I can be wrong) that the mammoth will have a howdah on it - with the exception of the blitzer, beasts don't have riders!

Okay Woldwrath, here's the standard you need to beat. Impress me, big guy! Don't be boring!

...in fact, I'm seriously going to get one just to have a guy hanging onto it halfway up, and a horse running around its feet.

I'm already supremely giddy about the thought of the Archangel and the Woldwrath. Mammoth... I am unsure, I'd have to see the model and the rules. Mountain King sounds awesome, but I don't own trolls.

And I said it'll be a dragon. With a name like Archangel, it better be a dragon, though at this point I am prepared to label a flying snake/super-angelius as a dragon and be happy with it.

    Two things.

    1) I still don't have NQ #40, and I subscribed in November last year.

    2) no Minions colossal.

    Man am I awfully sad.

Pretty disappointing that there was no mention of a Minions Colossal...

I can only hope it was an omission and that they are keeping the minion one a surprise

    Sounds like a great lineup!

Is the Skorne Mammoth like a traditional Mammoth? If not, how does it differ? Is it like a huge Titan? Does it have 6 (or more?) limbs?

    From Monsternomicon II page 115:
The skorne have managed to tame a number of mammoths. One of the creatures can carry enough weight to support an armored howdah loaded with gunners and cannons.
Also, I'm really stoked about the woldwrath - I've been waiting to see one of those on the table since I saw it in Monsternomicon.

The "Mammoth" is the massive creature seen in the Witchfire Trilogy. Nothing wooly, these are gigantic, scaly beasts with tusks. They'll probably have to scale it down a bit and use more of the current skorne aesthetic. I looked at the old one again and it's comically bad compared to their current looks. It had a pillbox of cannons sitting on the top. The Mammoth Monsternomicon entry is incredibly bland, with half of it dedicated to describing how the thing just collapses on people after dying. The rest is all tusks, teeth and tramples.

I looked up the Woldwrath again to remember how ridiculous it is and amazingly it's one CR less than a Mammoth in 3.5 though it has a load more rules. It won't likely carry much over to the war game, but the thing can put up a shield every 1d4 rounds gaining a hefty bonus to AC and it damages an attacker back when hit the first time. (Animus?) It can root itself and cast lightning strikes from a good distance. It regains HP each round and has a constantly high DR against ranged attacks. (Last part totally not making it into the game.) For standard attacks, the Woldwrath chucks rocks and does slam attacks with its fists.

You know, I've never been entirely sure if the beast from the Witchfire trilogy is the same as the mammoth from the Monsternomicon II. In the text in the Witchfire trilogy it describes the creature as moving on two legs, but the picture of it seems to have four (although it's hard to tell for sure because it's coming right at you and you can only see two legs clearly). The Monsternomicon mammoth definitely has 4 legs. They seem to be the same scale, and they both have scales, long tails, horns, and tusks. The horns and tusks on the Witchfire beast seem to be vastly different in size and placement compared to those on the Monsternomicon mammoth. Have we ever had an official word on whether they're supposed to be the same animal?
