View Full Version : Casting spells on units

After going over both books, I am still unsure of how warcasters/warlocks cast spells on units. I assume that they can cast a single spell on an entire unit, but who do they measure to? Does every troop in the unit need to be in formation to get the spell?

Only a single figure from a unit needs to be in range of the spell when it is cast for the entire unit to be affected by the spell. Page 72 of Hordes.

Spell effects that are "target model/unit" will effect the whole unit, but you only need to target a single model in that unit in order for the whole unit to get the buff. See Warmachine Prime Mk II p72: Spells and Effects.

Choose and target a single model in the unit. Any modifiers to hit (range, elevation, in melee, etc...) are based off of that single model. If the spell hits, all models in that unit are affected regardless of whether or not they are in formation. Spells targeting a friendly model, of course, need only to be in range of the spell.

Just remember it has to say "target model/unit" to affect the whole unit. If it just says model, then it will only affect the one guy you hit with the spell.

If a special rule or spell specifies “target unit,” it must target a trooper in a unit but will affect all models in the unit. Effects that specify “target model/unit” can target any model, including non-troopers, but if the target model is a trooper the effect will apply to the entire unit.

The rule in question. P.72 of Prime or Primal.
