beast lore says "boost all damage attack rolls against war beast for one turn" so does that boost all aspects of attacks, such as blast damage hits from AOE? Or do you even have to check for hitting with AOE blast?

You do not roll attack rolls on AOE blast damage. and it only boost all Attack rolls, not damage rolls.

No Beast Lore says:

target friendly warrior model/unit. If the model/unit is in range, it gains boosted attack rolls against warbeasts for one turn.

Attack rolls are not damage rolls. When the unit is rolling to hit a warbeast the attack is boosted, the damage roll is not boosted.

Ranged weapons with an AOE target a model normally, you make a ranged attack roll and if you succeed then that model is "directly hit" and you centre the AOE over the model. The model directly hit uses the full POW of the ranged attack in the damage roll, the rest of the models under the AOE are hit automatically and take a damage roll at half the POW of the ranged weapon. If you miss, you scatter (read that section if you do not know how to resolve a scatter) and the models under the template once you have scattered again are automatically hit and take a damage roll at half the POW of the ranged weapon. Only the roll to directly hit the first model is an attack roll, none of the damage rolls will be boosted.
