Just double checking:

A Cryx Slayer with a crippled claw is attacking Black Ivan. So he needs fives to hit and if he misses then Ivan will dodge out of combat. A bit hard to do with the crippled claw.
Does the Cryx player have to make all initial attacks, or can he skip the crippled one and go on to use focus to buy additional attacks?

You don't have to make all your initial attacks. In general the way it's clarified in the text is a "may" vs a "must". Chain Attack is a "may" where Berserk is a "must". Initial attacks is a "may".

Initial attacks is a "can".

I can breathe, but that doesn't make it optional.

Can is not must. A model does not have to make all of its initial attacks before it makes additional attacks. However, once a model makes additional attacks, it loses out on any initial attacks that it did not make.
