View Full Version : Special Actions, Stars and numbers.. Did I get this right?

So I was looking at the special actions some models have and some of them have starts and others have numbers, Now I understand the numbers, You roll 2d6 and try to get the number or lower to do it but am I right when I think that the star actions dont need a skill check?

Lets take the Koldun lord for example

he has Magic Ability [7], 2 *Attacks and 1 *Action

If he is using his star Attack, they use the Ability number + 2d6 (in this case 2d6+7) but if he uses his *Action, he doesn't need to make an Ability Check.

So, I guess yes, you've got it right.

Special (*) actions and attacks do not normally require a skill check.
Only skills do you roll 2d6 and try to get equal or less.
Storm Call [8] is a skill that you need to pass the check to use.
Magic Ability [7] Means that you make an attack roll of 7+2d6 when casting anything offensive that is part of the Magic Ability.

More or less, anything NOT called Magic Ability, requires a skill check. (Repair, Storm Call, etc.)
Any * Actions or * Attacks not part of a bulleted set do not require skill checks, but MAY require attack rolls using either MAT or RAT.

Skill checks are (IMO really poorly) defined on Prime 49. Magic Abilities are on 83.
