Here's the play: Vlad 3 declares a ride-by and casts Dash. Then he advances say 3", takes his initials, then casts Flashing Blade before resuming movement. Is that legit? Can he cast spells while movement is "paused"?

A Cavalry model may use Ride By Attack to interrupt its movement to take its Combat Action.

A Warcaster/Warlock may cast spells at any time during its action, including its Combat Action, as long as it isn't interrupting an attack or other ability to do so.

A Warcaster/Warlock that is using Ride By Attack to interrupt its movement to take its Combat Action may cast spells during its Combat Action (as well as before and after its movement).

Of course! He's taking his combat action in the middle of his movement. He's allowed to cast spells during his combat action. It's all legit.

Indeed its legit. In fact, he actually wouldn't have to have taken his initials either. He could declare a ride-by, cast Dash, advance 3", cast Razorwind and Infernal Machine, then finish his movement.

Cool, cool. So I guess he can do some goofball nonsense on Feat with Side-step and Sprint. Activate, Ride-by, Feat, Dash. Advance: initial 1 (mount attack Combat Rider) & side step, initial 2 (spear) & side step, initial 3 (flail) & side step, finish movement, make Sprint move. That's a total of 24" of completely non-linear movement. Plus he can cast Flashing Blades at any of 5(!) different positions (before move, any of the initials, end of final side step).

This feels like the kind of incredible activation that's beautiful to dream about but also trying to pull it off is somehow a trap...

Yep, perfectly legal to me as all triggers and timings are fine.

Now, now, no need for that attitude! Leave the dream, pull it off and watch your opponent's jaw hit the table when you dance through his/her army. You'll want your camera at hand.

Thing is, you can do it anyway, since you're immune to free-strikes from Dash so swing away! Double points if you end his activation where he started after taking a few heads! Hand of Fate + Sylys should help on that count, I'd've thought...

Indeed. Bonus points for playing Trololololol in the background while you are doing it.

Then you follow up using your Uhlans to do almost the exact same thing.
