View Full Version : Charging and LoS.

A very simple LoS/charging question.

Under normal circumstances, a charging unit needs to see its target in order to declare its charge. If, at any point, the charging unit fails to see its target, does the charge fail?

Example: Witch Coven's Nightfall. From outside the aura, the charging unit can see its target. It charges, and moves through Nightfall. Its LoS is reduced to 5", and it can no longer see its target. Does it continue the charge, or does it fail?

I have a sneaking suspicion that the unit finishes the charge, but it would help to have this clarified.

Well, the requirement for LOS is for declaring the charge, so I'd say you would continue movement, since you have to:

p. 47
The charging model must have LOS to a model to declare
it as a charge target. After declaring a charge, the charging
model turns to face any direction that will bring it to within
melee range of its target, ignoring terrain, the distance to
the charge target, and other models. The charging model
then advances its current SPD plus 3 ˝ in that direction, in a
straight line. The charging model cannot voluntarily stop its
movement until its target is in its melee range, then it can end
this movement at any point.

Then, as long as you end your movement within melee range (which would then also give back LOS under Nightfall, anyway), you continue as normal.

You check LOS before you move for the charge and do not have to check LOS again for the charge.
